The Joining

Overview

The event ten thousand years ago where dragons attempted to prevent further violence between themselves and human kind. The general ideas was to combine the two species into one, where individuals could shift between both forms. Partially successful.

Escalating Tensions

As Stone Age humans began evolving and moving towards civilization, they began to hunt dragons and other magical creatures with increasing frequency. Dragons and Laku had no way to communicate with humans as they could with themselves, and thus had no way to negotiate a truce or an alliance. Many Lakis species did not see humans as any bigger of a threat compared to other magical creatures, but the dragons especially understood that humankind's path towards tools and technology made them a potential powerhouse of violence. Tools, they reasoned, did not have the same inhibitions against killing that magic had.

Planning

Grusa-kal, leader of dragonkind at the time, traveled to the sacred mountain Sharloka in order to seek advice from the spirits of dead dragons. He and other respected living dragons had been unable to come up with an acceptable solution to the issue. Grusa-kal met with a spirit who identified himself as Angond son of Inap, the first dragon to discover and ascend into the spirit world. Angond revealed that his fellow spirits too have been searching for an answer, and presented to Grusa-kal the solution they agreed upon: join the two species.

Performing the Spell

Many dragons were brought together in order to chant the spell. In addition, conjuring dragons all across the world set up a magical link with Grusa-kal. Grusa-kal himself is said to have tapped into Raw Magic to complete the spell. However, no one knows the true nature of the spell and how it was accomplished as all conjuring dragons perished before the spell was completed in an event known as The Curse.

Result

The idea was to completely combine humans and dragons into one species. However, dragons gained a human form while humans remained untouched. Still fearful of what human kind might do and reeling from the effects of the Curse, dragon kind pledged to hide from humans using their new form. Before long, all Lakis species followed dragon kind's retreat into the shadows.
