Magic Influenced Maladies

Overview

Magic Influenced Maladies are a class of illnesses, conditions, and cancers found exclusively within creatures of magic, though most are similar to non-magical maladies. Many of these afflictions are either resistant to magic as a cure or feed on the magic of the host.

Illnesses and Conditions

As all Lakis species evolved from ancestors of various non-magical animals, each species shares common maladies with similar modern non-magical animals. An example is of equine type Laku such as Pegasi and Centaurs suffereing from common ailments of modern horses, and in addition having Magic Influenced versions of some of these.
Various illnesses and conditions of a magical type have primarily been studied by dragons and of those ailments studied in depth, all can be found in dragons. Dragons, having two different physical forms, are also susceptible to human type maladies as well as those primarily found in scaled Laku. The most common Magic Influenced Malady found in dragons is a particularly strong variant of Influenza which can affect any Lakis species. This strain feeds on the magic within a host, diminishing their ability to cure themselves. It is rarely fatal as it has not developed resistance to curing spells.

Cancers

Prevalent in all Lakis species, cancer with magical influence is one of the most dreaded afflictions to be diagnosed with, though not many Laku understand the true terror of this malady. Most Magic Influenced cancers have a strong resistance to magic, and in later stages can ever resist killing spells cast through Forbidden Spells or through Corrupt Magic. Especially in the case where the cancer is malignant, the afflicted must undergo procedures developed by humans to fight cancer, but these treatments normally have a lower success rate for magical cancers.
Nearly all cancers affected by magic lay dormant for several years before the inflicted even knows something is wrong. Tumors begin as normal cancer, but the body's magic tries to fend off the tumors and often fails. The cancer builds resistance to magic during this time.

Physiological Afflictions

Physiological afflictions are rarely influenced by magic to become something different. Chronic conditions tend to affect Laku less because of help from magic and in many cases can be cured with the right knowledge.
