Vileex

"BAROLD, GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE JUST STEPPED INTO, YOU FOOL!"
— Someone concerned about Barold

The Mist

When they're there, you don't see them. When they're not, you don't miss them. When you're dying, you realize your mistake. The air leaves your lungs, forcing you to your knees, grasping at your throat as if some imaginary blockage can be released to bring that precious air back into your body. Your vision blurs, slowly getting darker, slowly filling with red. Your body is prepared to do anything to be able to breathe again, but you just can't figure out what you need to do...   That is the horror that you are doomed with if you lurk too long in the nests of the vileex. That is the curse they bring to the swamplands of the Eight Lands. Their crawling, rock-like crustacean bodies sit in the mud, waiting for anything to breathe in the mist they exhale. They drag themselves slowly through the damp, pushing their own kin along with them if necessary.

The Earth

The vileex are foul creatures born of their own poisoned death, bred in stones to be the threat you never see coming. They lie dormant in the winter months, much like the rest of the swampland, waiting for the warmth to beat down on them so they may begin their terror yet again.   While they know not of the horrors they cause, make no mistake, they are nothing but monsters in shells of rock. Even their own deaths cause more to flourish in their toxic environment.   Should you need to venture through their lands, you do so in winter, or when the rain and wind beat down so heavily that you can no longer see past your own outstretched hands. Whatever you do, you do not stop. You barely breathe. You pass through there only to survive, there is no thriving in their nests.

Ooooo that's a bad way to go. Gives me shivers. Well written and well done as always. Another horrifying beastie to add to the pile.

It's a terrible way to go, yeah. Glad you enjoyed it, despite the terrifying doom.
