The Sandless Dead

"Look, I'm telling you. The Sandless Dead are nothing to mess around with. You start digging them up and you're going to end up in a lot of trouble, probably dead."
— Someone giving good advice to a friend

Where The Dead Lie

Buried deep underneath the dunes of the Southern Peninsula, where the sun cannot reach and the only creatures who dare to walk there are those descended from the builders, is a cavernous space. Intricately carved in the bedrock with large sandstone pillars supporting its ceiling, is the mausoleum of the N'weiki people.   Their use of the mausoleum ensures that their dead will not be forgotten, with the carvings telling their story, their history, ever to be expanded and grown by the living paying their respects. Each family has their own cavern to attend to, ensuring that their personal history is kept up to date, as well as their dead kept entombed.   The responsibility of the main hallways falls to everyone, as the responsibility of housing the dead is seen as a task that not one person or group should be left to shoulder when their entire lineage is kept safe in their halls, not just that of one bloodline.

The Living Can Still Die

While the Sandless Dead is a place whose location is kept close to their hearts, there have been visitors to its harrowing halls, though none have been trusted to be given its precise location. Each visitor is blindfolded for part of their journey to ensure that they would not be able to find it without great difficulty. These visitors are also not left alone, as they are not of the people, and so while they may be granted entry to the Sandless Dead, they will never be completely trusted with the living heritage of the N'weik Ki'a.   A few have tried searching for the mausoleum, some by grave robbers, some by those who have heard rumours of the Sandless Dead, that those who lie within can rise and speak again.   None have found it, but some continue searching, hoping that one day they come to the truth of the Sandless Dead.
