Tahlevini

"See, you tahlevini have a knack for the water. You sure you ain't no fisherman?"
— A fisherman

Tide Bound

Usually found by large bodies of water, whether that be on a coastline or the shores of a lake, the tahlevini enjoy the presence of the waters lapping at their homelands. The gentle, constant sound of the water washing across the sand and rocks gives them a sense of belonging they can't quite find elsewhere.   Due to their heritage of being near the waters of the Eight Lands, their nature has taken on some aspects of the tides, letting them swim with great ease. Some believe that their heritage has also granted them the uncanny ability to communicate with creatures of the water, but beyond them having an affinity of calming potential predators, no one has seen a tahlevini make a sea creature do anything unnatural. Their tide-side nature, however, has given them a slight blue tinge to their skin, as opposed to the pinkish tinge that one would see on humans.

Waterborn

There are rumours that due to their natural proficiency with the waters that there are a good many tahlevini who become sailors or pirates. Due to the natural unreliability of rumours, there has been no way of confirming this, however it is known that many prominent tahlevini were sailors in their formative years.   While not a universal custom, there are some tahlevini who choose to spend their lives as guardians of regions of the water, giving them a path to journey along for their lives. The ones who do choose to guard the tides are beloved by many, as they ensure that their chosen home has safe and cared for marine life. Their responsibilities include preventing overfishing where they can, keeping people safe when they are in the waters, and guiding all lost creatures back on their proper way.

Whoah, I want to swim alongside them! Since they have such affinity with the waters, do they live in a body of water, or do they live on land close to the water? And also, do they have some underwater breathing abilities? I mean, how else could they communicate with predators? ^^

They live on land close to the water, and yes they can breathe underwater!
