Bahs Character in Pronathea | World Anvil

Bahs

"She walks as if she treads pure slumber, resting softly on your eyelids until you drift into your tired mind. She's the presence you feel in the witching hours when the world is quiet..."
— Unknown

Timely Treading

Stories liken the silent steps of Bahs to the whispers you never hear, the words left unspoken, and the pause before a breath. Paintings show her as a shadow on the clouds, resting as she drifts on by like a dream, her simple black dress floating across the stars.   Those who believe in Bahs trust her to be their silent guardian, simply providing a prayer every night for her watchfulness and keeping a candle burning for her shadow to be flung over them like a second blanket. Bahs asks nothing in return for their faith, but many of those who believe in her offer protection in the night, providing to their community what she provides to them.

A Shade of the Light

While some believe the night is something to be afraid of, Bahs represents that night is a comfort and a necessary place to be before the dawn. She represents restfulness and quiet, bringing a softness to an otherwise harsh and undeterred world around you.   Those who devote themselves wholly to her service are named the Dusken, they travel across the Eight Lands offering their services as nightwatchmen to cities and towns in exchange for food and shelter. They also make themselves available to those who wish to perform certain ceremonies during the witching hours, allowing their fellow believers to conduct themselves safely with the presence of Bahs through the Dusken.

Oooo even better, a goddess for nyctophiles. I relate. I'll say it again, the figurative language used is just awesome here. The second blanket comment was a particularly nice touch. I really like the title "timely treader." It really makes her out to be someone who loves her midnight walks. It's evocative and unique. Well done!

What a beautifully written article. I love the symbolic language you've used. It really spoke to my imagination. I think I'll light a candle tonight for a Bahs blanket. ^^   Keep up the good work! :D

"...the whispers you never hear, the words left unspoken, and the pause before a breath."   Oh, that's neatly spun. The idea feels like a great spine for a story as occuring in descriptions of places, art, characters' behaviour. Lurking in the background, unnoticed by many but essential.   I would love to read more.

Bahs sounds lovely. I like deities who're cool to people and this is no exception.
