The Emerald Tower

A leaning spire of green crystal rises fifty feet from the ground in the middle of the Eryllian Plains. Surrounded by a field of black roses, it marks a stark image in the otherwise empty hills. It was mistaken for emerald by the Truin brothers, who were the first foreigners to encounter it in their journeys with the local Hyena clan, and it was so named when they returned home. The locals all simply call it Tor Pied, and all the clans have their own myths for its origin, though it has stood there since before they even migrated there. One common factor in all these myths is that a god or other powerful figure pulled the stone from deep within the Earth to gather power from the forces of nature, for future use in the end of days.

Localized Phenomena

Any thunderstorm passes through the area is drawn to the spire, and the tower attracts all lightning but takes no damage. The spire glows from within for a while after whenever this happens.   The shadow that the stone pinnacle leaves also serves as would a sundial's, and is visible even if the sun hides behind cloud cover. Oddly however, when the sun is at its zenith, regardless of the weather, the sky clears in the area about the spire and a spiralling cloud formation forms. The weather returns to how it was before midday within a few minutes.

Fauna & Flora

Common grackle birds frequent the area during their migration in late Autumn, never landing on the tower itself but always encircling it before descending into the fields. Ground Bees pollinate the flowers and several mammals live in burrows in the surrounding hills, as they do in all the Eryllian Plains. During the times after storms when the pillar is lit from within, the area buzzes with activity of all the rats, ferrets and prairie dogs. Even herds of bison sometimes gather in a circle around it.
