The South

Geography

The South is the final and by far the most extended region of Adrae, that the Dawngate Mountain divides further in two: the Mainland, and the Far South. Aside from the mountain and some low hills scattered about, the terrain never changes from a wide, open steppe.   The most noticeable feature of the South is that it is short on sources of accessible water. The regions share six rivers in total, which is not nearly enough for a solid resource, but these much rather serve the purpose of travelling. If it wasn't for a handful of lakes, and wells that the natives dug, life on the plains would be even harder.

Fauna & Flora

Predominantly a grassland, trees are almost completely absent, save for a few groves near the mountain and the riversides. Pastures and meadows are more common, although they tend to grow so tall and messy that one may only thread through them on horseback. There are also little areas here that are fit for farming and most of these already belong to a settlement. To this day it remains to be backbreaking labour and artificial solutions to fertilize a piece of land, and battles often start over owning such lands that are newly found.

The creatures of the South got accustomed to the harsh conditions of their homeland better than the humans, they are the real masters of survival. The South holds the third place on the face of Progonos of having high numbers of Beast Kings, but thankfully they rarely move too far from their lairs among the mountains or below the earth...

Natural Resources

The deep caverns of the Dawngate Mountain are rich in all sorts of valuable minerals, such as gold, silver, iron ore, gems, copper, sulfur, salt, and coal, this is what the southern city-states made their fortune on. The only thing that people, especially foreigners are more interested in are the fine horse breeds that the wastelander clans domesticated from the native wild horses. Some are said to worth a king's ransom.
