The Aqueducts of Marmori
Discovery
Far to the northeast is an island that occasionally drifts close enough to the High Plain for explorers to traverse it. Every two winters or so, the island of Marmori returns its previous explorers and takes on new ones. Marmori is a barren place reminiscent of the time of Salt. Broken structures of marble and rock jut from the gray and beige landscape of rugged hills and choppy mountains. A thick fog lingers in the air that faintly smells of soot and petrichor. A terrible tragedy happened here, but historians cannot quite identify what exactly occurred here. Many speculate that the wastes here were a product of the Mourning Brother's malice towards living creatures whilst others believe that a great war inevitably destroyed the nation and left it in utter ruin. Regardless, historians are always utterly fascinated by the remnants of a civilization that clings to existence amidst the apocalypse."Aye, and the Marmorians erected great structures that seemingly acted as artificial rivers.Towering high in the distance are massive arching bridges that leak streams of water from their cracks. These structures are known as aqueducts, and architects and historians alike believe that they were used to control water and to carry waste away from cities to prevent stench and sickness. The leveled cities that run with artificial rivers have been heavily studied and examined so that they may be replicated in the High Plains to create cities in places they otherwise would not exist.
Speculation
Marmori has all but fallen apart and the land here is in no condition to erect new structures upon. For now, explorers here simply walk through the place like a museum; speculating upon what led a seemingly prosperous nation to utter annihilation.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
