Blyskaad, The Village at the Foot of the Mountain
Between Trees & Rock
Beyond the pillars of broadleaf trees lay a lake that reflects the pale Diemaja upon its still surface. Wooden edifices with snow-caked thatched roofs seem to cling to the skirt of the waters by the dozens. Even more buildings of mostly wood and some stone ascend above the lake upon rocky precipices. Glowing spots of orange and yellow flicker within and about the quiet village. Strings of smoke gently climb skyward at a slant as the mountainous winds push at them, disappearing into the sallow mists above."It be somber, aye? Built of Ealdèn lumber and limestone. Twas made by common folk for the common folk. There be no "lords" or "ladies" here, nay, it be the elders that decide what is best and what is not for Blyskaad"The village of Blyskaad wraps almost entirely around lake Eduars. As such, many of the villages refer to the main road through the village as "the 'shoe" or "the horseshoe". The shoe is where most of Blyskaad's commerce takes place. In Ealdè, there is no currency, only bartering of goods and services. If someone needs tar for their boat, they are expected to have something to give that would be a fair trade.- Dags of Runce
History
Blyskaad is the largest settlement Ealdè. Roughly one hundred buildings line the perimeter of lake Eduars and beyond with nearly four times as many people living there at any given time. It was settled two centuries ago by Blyskalja of Lod, the daughter of an infamous hunter who often killed Lauma that he encountered in the wilds. In a fateful confrontation, Blyskalja crossed paths with one such Lauma. Through simple communication tactics, it explained that her father was a killer and that she should flee before befalling his same fate. Not one to argue, Blyskalja warned her relatives of her father's wanton murders. Before nightfall, they gathered all of their belongings and fled eastward toward Diemaja. There, the very same Lauma met her, gifting her the land to create a new home.A Home to All
In its two centuries of existence, Blyskaad has garnered a reputation for being a safe place for any and all walks of life to live within. The inhabitants pay head to Soleta, the sun witch, who instructs the village to be kind to all in exchange for her protection and watchful eye. Soleta is a rather mysterious figure that is said to live within the lake itself. Many believe that she alone protects Blyskaad's inhabitants from the territorial Kalnè (mountain Lauma).Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
