Blestborn

Blestborn are people gifted with the ability to conjure raw mana. Although the term blestborn was created to be used for those supposedly born with the gift, a person may not be aware they are one until much later in their life and thus not considered so until then. The term is actually a misnomer as it is misapplied to individuals rather than race. It is scientifically proven that the ability to practise mana lies in the race of the person, which is dependent on its biology, instead of the individual. Thus, every child with the biological capacities would technically be “born blest”. However, since many individuals from the allegedly “chosen” races never achieve the ability to manipulate mana, society deems that even within chosen races, the person must be gifted with this status, to whom they call the blestborn.

History

Among the most ancient of human races it was not possible for humans to be capable of bending the powers of nature, this trait is still visible today with one of the oldest human races, the Mouns. This ability of mana manipulation was exclusive to more spiritually talented species such as the elves, sprites, among others. It was not until much later that humans capable of transcending their spiritual limitation started to appear, and these were considered to be extremely rare cases, designated to be ones that are blessed by the grace of the Goddess, afterward known as the blestborn.

First cases

It is not given for certain when exactly was the time humans started being seen as spiritual talented creatures, however, it is believed it was a gradual process. Despite of what it is believed and defended by most, the more intellectual ones know it is not just a gift from the divine but is related to the evolution of the human's body physiology. There was a period of time where the distance between humans and elves was significantly cut. The existence of half-elf or half-human started to be more common. Some looked more elven than human, while others more human than elven, which in turn allowed to still be fully integrated within human social groups even though having elven blood. This interbreeding that began to spread more and more still permitted these half-counterparts to be able to conjure mana... or some of them, at least.

Cultural Reception

Some gained more than others that lost most of what held their part of the world. The ability to control raw mana started to become more arbitrary. The half-human elves, who are elves with some human blood on them, that would by chance not inherit spiritual connection to the world's mana had more to lose, contrary to the half-elf humans, humans with elven blood, that either had only more to gain or nothing at all but wouldn't lose a thing.   There were cases of half-human elves not inheriting this physiology, and so among the elves being considered as outcasts, cursed, or rejected by the Goddess. Which in turn would mark and throw them as being ostracised by their elven community. While in the human side the half-elf humans that still maintained the elven physiology, gifting them with spiritual talent, were seen as blessed, messengers of the Goddess, and were praised as so. Beliefs that were passed on to later human society and are still well spread and ingrained in people’s minds of today. Trained to perfect their abilities and later exert posts such as High Priests and sometimes even called Seers, though the Seer position of this time period was not how it is today. Seers usually rose to be remarkably important figures in society, while this view has changed in today’s society, similarly to how the blestborn themselves have.
