Despite life's apparent attempts to slow me down, I have been hard at work on Vazdimet the last several months, and I finally feel I have a handle on things to talk about what I've been up to, and what lies ahead. Yay!
Mordena Dawn
Book 1: In Spite of the Inevitable
Beta Reading is now open! Due to the pending holidays, I've set the date for responses for 28 January 2023, which should give everyone plenty of time to answer while still allowing me the turnaround time I need to make any necessary edits. I intend to begin publishing the series in 2023, although I have not yet set the date - likely later in the year.
If you're interested in joining the beta readers, I've provided the link!
Book 2: Spirits of the Relentless
Exciting news on this front, also!
TJ Trewin has officially started the art for thr cover. We've got a good idea of the layout and composition now, so he'll begin the actual art next.
I did also request some tweaks to Book 1's cover, mainly to Admiral Kydell's appearance. These are also in work.
Book 4: In Pursuit of Reckoning
I'm in the home stretch on finishing the first draft of this one, and I couldn't be happier. I am hoping to finish before the end of the month, although my writing has slowed since I have returned to work, so it might drift into December.
Side Story: In Pursuit of Acknowledgement
In the process of getting into the head of Sub-Lieutenant Selkirk Bryn to ensure his actions remained true to character, I wrote a small side story starring him and his TAG team. These ten chapters currently parallel the events of
In Pursuit of Reckoning.
It's become clear this story wants to turn into a novel at some point, as well, but for now it's a standalone story available to all subscribers and best read after
In Pursuit of Reckoning.
Other Writing Projects
Tempting the TAG
My coauthor,
Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull, has been hard at work this November writing a Sparnelli slice of life romance, following the training woes of TAG Sub-Lieutenant Thayer Kester, and his subsequent impact on the lives of medic Third Petty Officer Hawke Yara and her best friend and coworker, the Disowned Second Petty Officer Tristan.
This story is available to all subscribers, as well. It takes place approximately ten years after Mordena Dawn, and I've been thoroughly enjoying reading the chapters as they're completed.
Lookahead
2022
I'm juggling a lot of different things for Vazdimet at the moment, from monitoring the beta reading to organizing my websites to learning how to run a more effective mailing list.
In Pursuit of Reckoning will be the last novel I finish this year, at which point I'll be taking a break for World Ember and the holidays.
There is a good chance December will also require a pause on the creative efforts entirely, as my father in law was recently admitted to hospice, and the doctors don't think he has much time left since his dialysis stopped helping. The whole family has pulled together to help prepare, which has been nice. There's a lot of emotions involved, as you can imagine, and our own relationship with him has been strained so we're not certain what emotions will happen when the time comes.
2023
Starting in early February I will begin the process of incorporating beta reader comments into the first draft of
In Spite of the Inevitable. My plans for 2023 are fluid by design, but will involve beta reading for the other novels, many edits, plotsing and writing
Grim Reminders, writing quite a few collaborations I have planned with various people in the WorldAnvil community, and really working on Vazdimet's magic and species articles. And of course - publishing!
There's so many exciting things happening in the coming months. Thank you so much for all your love and encouragement! You are what makes the dream possible.
