Post-post-apocalyptic hi-tech superhero fantasy

Long ago, the Great Calamity happened. The world was wiped clean, and its population reduced to a fraction. Now, humanity is rebuilt. Though the great nations of the past are long gone, large cities dot the landscape, points of light in the middle of uncharted wilds.   The unknown wilds between cities are populated by those known as abominations, territorial and aggressive, remnants of the fauna of the old world mutated beyond recognition. Mankind itself is changed too, and people now have the potential to awaken fantastic powers.   The Defenders are the protectors of mankind, equipped with high-tech weapons, with their powers honed and trained on how to effectively fight abominations at the Aegis Academy in the Walled City of Arcadia. In small task forces, they slay abominations that get too close to the cities and guard expeditions into the wilds.
