Session 15 Report in Portville Adventures | World Anvil

Session 15

General Summary

3rd of Flocktime, year 595   The party enters the Dragonmouth front temple (without checking for any scouts or lookouts of the cultist party that they are in hot pursuit of), so when they (along with temp party member Valenthe and Guard tag-a-longs Samerson and Riardon, and the Bahamut priest there to perform the attenuation and his acolyte) entered the darkened temple, the Cloudkill trap was sprung nearly killing Irina.   Valenthe helped rescue Irina, but in the course of the ensuing battle with dragonborn mercenaries meant to delay the party, Samerson and Riardon decided Irina's misfortune was an opportunity to go ahead and eliminate her -- first attempting to look accidental and then outright murderous.   Meanwhile, several mercs, an illusionist, and a necromancer nearly kill multiple party members before the illusionist escaped out the front of the temple and the necromancer out the back once all of their support was eliminated. The priest of Bahamut performed the attenuation, which revealed the Dragonmouth proper entrance, and the party continued their pursuit.   The mouth of the dragon burst into flame, and a voice boomed in Draconic:
"The body and sanctum of Xymor, Bahamut, Wyrmking, Son of Io, Bringer of Justice and Lord of the North Wind, welcomes only those who share his heart and spirit. All others shall feel the pain of his displeasure. Come forth and prove your worth."
While none in the party were able to fully claim both a like heart and spirit to Bahamut, at least Malex was able to enter the Dragonmouth without feeling lasting effects, while all others in the party felt the Wyrmking's displeasure (in the form of lessened fighting prowess and ability).   The Dragonmouth led into a network of lava tubes and caverns with occasional pools of magma. They quickly dispatched a couple of Guardian Drake, and eventually came to a bridge of levitating stones over a river of burning water. Irina used her Misty Step to bypass the danger and convey a safety line over the bridge. The rest of the party risked collapse from heat and fumes as they crossed the bridge, as well as an attack from a trio of Fire Snake! Fortunately, they were able to take them out using the last of the spells at their disposal, as well as a few well-placed bow shots that did not fare well against fire-based beasts.   Throughout the day of battles, new enchanted weapons had been used. Principally, Malex made use of his new warhammer, Krovozhadnost. He found that while it has meager but useful magical attack properties (+1), a successfully hit opponent must withstand the hit (CON save DC 12) or else suffer more damage (1d4).   Toby, having acquired new weapons recently as well, tried them out this day. Teagmháil Fuar (tagmal fooar) is an enchanted short sword (+1) that when it strikes, calls to the wielder to choose Fire or Ice. It then does the related elemental damage (1d4) to the opponent -- however, the wielder is wounded by half as much of the opposite element!   He also was the first to use the Blood Dagger which Walrick had held onto for so long. Toby discovered that when he uses this blade (which when drawn continuously drips with blood), while it also provides aid (+2) the very same wound inflicted appears upon the wielder!   The party continued through the lava caverns until they came upon a large, thick and scorched set of double doors. After finally getting them open, at the end of a narrow passageway could be seen another set of doors with the Draconic words engraved on it:
"Only the Servant of Io may open this door."
Suddenly, the party felt the blow of hot wind and looked back to find the appearance of a Fire Elemental tower over them!
