Festival of Cuisine (Karq)

Every three years, the goblin island of Karq puts on its annual week-long Festival of Cuisine.   Like everything else happening on Karq, this tends to be dizzying array of state-of-the-art as the relentless forward momentum of goblin society constantly adds new ingredients, new ways of using old ingredients, new cooking techniques, and new ways of serving what has already been cooked.   The festival is open to anyone who wishes to attend, which means that Karq gets a significant uptick in off-island visitors during the festival.   Skeptics often decry the event as an "at your-own-risk" proposition where a visitor is as likely to wind up poisoned or sick as they are to enjoy themselves. In reality, this is both unfair and untrue, and discounts an important aspect of goblin society: notably that the goblins of Karq are constantly pushing everything forward, all the time. This notably includes sanitation and food safety.   What one should expect is some adventurous flavors. The goblins will often take an ingredient that has a strong or unpleasant flavor as something of a challenge and will iterate through multiple ways of preparing something that others wouldn't find worth their time. The end result is usually delicious, but also surprising. This also means that new spices, new aromatics, and even things formerly thought of as poisonous wind up on plates on a regular basis.   The festival usually takes over the bulk of the town square in any given community. Typically cooks give out small samples for free and full servings for a modest price, usually just enough above cost to cover the samples. This great abundance of (often rich and spicy) food for the trying also has led to the creation of various antacids and digestive remedies. After all, the problem of feeling uncomfortable after having eaten too much is a problem that can be solved, and those don't last long on an island full of high-energy innovators.
