The dominant species on the planet Earth. Comes in baseline and superpowered flavors.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The human body consists of two legs, a torso, two arms, a neck, and a head. An adult human body consists of about 100 trillion cells. The most commonly defined body systems in humans are the nervous, the cardiovascular, the circulatory, the digestive, the endocrine, the immune, the integumentary, the lymphatic, the musculoskeletal, the reproductive, the respiratory, and the urinary system. In superhumans, organs and body systems can have increased or altered function and activity depending on the kind of power(s) they possess. There have been some documented cases where superhumans have entirely new or different organs.

Biological Traits

Human biological traits vary substantially, with traits such as blood type, cranial features, eye color, hair color and type, height and build, and skin color varying across the globe.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans are a diploid eukaryotic species. Each somatic cell has two sets of 23 chromosomes, with each set received from one parent. Gametes have only one set of chromosomes, which is a mixture of the two parental sets. Among the 23 pairs of chromosomes are 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes. Humans have an XY sex-determination system, so that females have the sex chromosomes XX and males have XY. Superpowers can be passed on to offspring, though the methods of transfer are currently unknown. The general rule of thumb is if at least one parent has superpowers or the capability of gaining superpowers, their offspring will, too. This isn't a hard and fast rule, however; there have been cases where a superhuman child is born to baseline parents, and others where two superhuman parents have a baseline child. There's also no guarantee that the child will have the exact same powers as their parent, especially if both parents have different powers. They may have the same power as or a variation of one parent's power, a power that combines aspects of both parents' powers, or an entirely different power unlike either parents' powers.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Humans live throughout the world.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Baseline humans have five senses consisting of vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. The strength of these senses and the presence of other senses vary in superhumans. In addition, all humans have the capability to learn and practice magic, though few are even aware of this, and even fewer can sufficiently practice it.
