1 — Abysthor Lodge (Abis-thor)
Absythor Lodge resides in the foothills of the Stoneheart Mountains. The Lodge has become popular in recent years for treating various disorders ailing the population of nearby (and not so nearby) towns and cities. Those with serious drinking problems often find their way to Abysthor and greener pastures beyond. Abysthor Lodge is even well known among the needy as a way to escape the miserable city life for a recovery period in rural Stoneheart.
In the vicinity of Abysthor Lodge, the local watches have been empowered to escort the occasional drunk and lost gratis to the Lodge. (Unfortunately, the Watch of smaller towns enjoy no such privilege.) For that reason, even the down and out of larger cities know about Abysthor. Like any mysterious curative power, some avoid it like the plague, while others welcome the chance to heal themselves or their loved ones. The curious seek out certain members of the Watch who are making the various trips to escort more middle-class inebriated or recovering folk to the Lodge and who make room for the occasional spare passenger. The journey is long, deep into the wilderness, and the location virtually unknown as Abysthor Lodge is part of the Stoneheart Hills. Consequently, the Watch escort is essential (and spendy for paying customers).
Of course, the Watch like the extra coin.
The Lodge is very secluded and physically remote. Since the access to the Lodge is a cliff-face, guests must take a manually driven elevator to reach their final destination. The healing Lodge is on a plateau at the clifftop. The area is full of wilderness except for a small campsite, storage buildings, and barn-style encampment at the cliff's foot. The Lodge also does trade from the cliff's foot and does not provide lodging for the watchmen. So the dropoffs are brief.
Healthy patients rarely return home and are reputed to make their way to greener pastures and healthier lifestyles elsewhere. Few (if any) return to their former lifestyle, which is why Abysthor Lodge has such a healthy (if mysterious) reputation in recent years.
