The Optiaic Ocean

Phryxt is not a world covered in stone and earth, no, it is one ruled by the sea. Continents in Phryxt are akin to beacons, pinpricks of light shining through the vast oceans. Most in each of these continents think themselves the only existing landmass, or at least the only landmass with living, thinking beings. This is especially true of Aurore, a continent directly in the center of Phryxt's biggest ocean: the Optiaic Ocean.   The Optiaic Ocean, named as such due to the fact that its all one can see when viewing out from any part of Aurore's coast, holds two titles on Phryxt. It is both the largest ocean, and the most deadly. No one truly knows why the Optiaic has this unique property, only that any and all ships, of the sea or sky, that attempt to traverse it never fail to sink. Those who have ways to travel long distances without the use of physical transportation can still make their way to the continent, and off of it, but there have been reports of difficulty when compared to other locations at a similar distance.   Many attribute the state of the Optiaic due to the effects of a curse placed upon the Aspaxian Empire that dwells within. Others posit that the dark energies at play in Aspax merely attract other dark sea-faring creatures, and even more just claim coincidence.   Regardless of their opinion on its origin, all throughout Phryxt - in Aurore and out - agree that the Optiaic is a danger to all who traverse it. And of those dangers, none are as menacing at the looming threat of the Bladrune Leviathan. A creature of Surlandr legend, the Bladrune is said to encircle the entire continent of Aurore, slumbering far underneath the sifting waves. Only the gods know if this assertion is true, but many reports of sea-quakes and large, serpentine shadows in the waters of the Optiaic lend credence to this theory. Whether or not the Bladrune exists, its certain we don't want to find out - and risk its wrath.
