The Aspaxian Empire

The Aspaxian Empire is ruggedly individualistic and yet patriotic. They value magical power above all else, but their vestigial system of nobility means that those who had powerful parents are more likely to have training to become powerful as well. The Aspaxian Empire is currently at war with Esnuedor (a former colony) and Oerla (a long-time rival). They are allies with Surland. The Aspaxian Empire is currently plagued with many issues. The first is a general unrest as the country adjusts to its first new Magus Optimum in 100 years, Annabella Aldridge. The second is a long-term issue: the fact that none of the country's conquest seems to supply the materials the empire needs for long. Their third issue is twofold: a war on two fronts, against the country of Oerla in the south and Esnuedor in the east.

Structure

Magus Optimum: The Emperor and leader of the armies of Aspax. Technically has final say on all things within the empire. Is also the Lord/Lady of the East. Magus Secundum: Handles domestic security. Often is also the Magus Ante. Magus Ante: The previous Magus Optimum. Often tasked by the new Magus Optimum with an advisory role. The Lord/Lady of the West: 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th places in the Tournament, respectively rules over the Eastern regions of Aspax.

Culture

The core belief of the Aspaxian Empire is strength before all else, namely magical strength. While other strengths are tolerated, this is only insomuch as they are absolutely required to run a society. The last thing the elite of Aspax want is for their tech to become powerful enough it outstrips their magic, as that would completely ruin their social order. As such, most Aspaxians view technology as evil and foreign, and view other lands as places to be conquered as a natural extension of Aspax's strength.

Public Agenda

The Aspaxian Empire unapologetically wants complete and total domination of the world. If a settlement bends the knee on its own, its most powerful warrior can fight a representative of Aspax to hold onto rule under the banner of the Empire.

Assets

The Aspaxian Empire, being the largest and arguably most powerful nation in Phryxy,has many assets. They maintain a powerful and trained magical army, and have numerous fortifications throughout the country. There are 5 large castles in the Empire, the largest in the capital, and many small keeps. Aspax does not have a large navy, and rely upon their Surlandian allies in naval engagements.

History

The Aspaxian Empire began 568 years ago after the rest of the Ancient Ones ascended to the Upper Plains. It started as a small city state, and remained a center of magical power for about 150 years, until a resource shortage caused the empire to look outward. It began to conquer most of the known world. This period, known as the Age of Conquest was the largest period of growth Aspax had ever experienced. For a number of years after that, the empire remained stagnant again until the loss of more resources caused them to once again look outward. This was 125 years ago. Aspax conquered more of the world, and began their war with Oerla. 30 years ago, Esnuedor seceded from Aspax.
