Head of Kosi Idan

The Head of Kosi Idan operates as the leader of the town. The current Head, who also founded the town, is Bhekifa.
The Head’s primary duties include ensuring that the town is running smoothly and that people are being treated fairly. However, he does not make decisions alone. The Head works with a council of advisors, both male and female, that represent the seven different work roles within the community. Representatives from each of these work roles are chosen by the members of these roles. In this way, Kosi Idan could be considered a representative government.

Daily Responsibilities of the Head

1. Meeting with council represenatives to to discuss issues and solutions to any work.
2. Ensuring that food and other resources are divided equitably among households.
3. Maintaining the Faraday Domes to ensure no deficiencies or risks of failing.

Although not common, the Faraday Dome does fail on occasion. It is an older model that needs constant repair and replacement of parts. The current Head is one of the few members of the community that has the technological knowledge of how the Dome works. Unfortunately, purchasing a newer model of the Dome is out of reach for the community.

Other Responsibilities of the Head

Because Kosi Idan is a small community, the residents all know of one another. When new people come to the town seeking refugee, the Head interviews them to ensure they are a good fit for the community. Additionally, he evaluates their skillsets for work placement.
The Head is in charge of dispatching justice for community members who have harmed others. Although the council meets to discuss solutions, the Head must make the final decision. Most choices involve reparations to the harmed party, often in the form of food or work for thief. However, violent crimes run the risk of banishment — the harshest of punishments as the Uncharted Swamplands is not a place one wants to wander through without a friend.
The Head ensures community members maintain local traditions and celebrations. Notably, although the Head believes in equal roles across gender in most arenas, there are two roles that are only open to one sex. Healing can only be practiced by females. Slaying can only be practiced by males.
One of the reasons the Head meets with advisors individually on a daily basis is to schedule when it’s necessary for supply runs. The Head schedules these runs, as well as the people who will travel. Every week, the Head and the council convenes for a public meeting. During this time, the Head will announce any changes in the community and allow for the airing of grievances. Private meetings are sometimes necessary when discussing issues; however, all decisions are publicly announced.

Succession Plan

Once a year, the community holds a vote of confidence for the Head of Kosi Idan. If the majority vote against a Head, then a new one will be selected. Currently, there is no succession plan in place for the next Head. Although it is possible that the Council of Advisors will choose a new Head, it is very likely that his stepson would succeed him, so long as he has the voice of approval from the council.
