Griot Chariots

Griot Chariots are a traveling caravans of Griots: an independent class of storytellers, musicians, and poets who tell the old tales of Earth and the new tales of Phasmatum. Most Griots are of Ginen descent and can be found in the Ginen region. It is not uncommon, however, for Griots to travel outside of Ginen to learn new stories and to share their tales with other people around the world.   Griots typically travel in groups of five to ten performers, with each performer riding into town on their own chariot. They also bring apprentices along, who help take care of the animals and vehicles as they travel. In exchange, Griots teach them about history, as well as their own techniques of sharing oral tradition.   When a Griot Chariot rides into town, it is always a cause for celebration. It is not uncommon for schools and work to close down for at least one day that they are present, so that everybody can see their performances. Additionally, Griots are always given the best accommodations in the town. Although they are not a secret society of their own, many Griots are part of secret societies. As part of their travels, they are also looking for Legendary Items to bring back to their society. Because of this, many Griots will focus on stories that mention the Legendary Items in hope that they can find more information about them from unsuspecting civilians.   Griot Chariots tend to be pulled by rare animals that were brought from Earth. The outsides of the chariots are decorated with designs that indicate famous stories told and as they ride into a town, the wind causes attached gourds and bells to rattle and ring in anticipation. Griots always ride into town one at a time with their caravan of apprentices often following later, after the initial fanfare and parade.
