Ocolite Material in Phantasia | World Anvil

Ocolite

One of the most important trade resources the Ocrim-Ra have to their name is the substance known as Ocolite. This rare building material can only be harvested from the horns of one of the most dangerous animals in the entirety of the Ocrim Steppe, the Oltigrad. The horns of these great beasts is composed of bone and Ocolite, and this secondary substance is what gives them their immense strength and durability. Being able to survive the trauma of the great blows of an adult dragon is no small feat, and this has lead to many on Iugosus to desire them. The Ocrim-Ra recognize this and so they have made it very clear that only they are allowed to hunt these great creatures.   While many have attempted to coerce the Ocrim-Ra into a change of policy on this front it has been stonewalled at every turn. The Ocrim of the steppe would not see this spiritually important beast hunted to extinction. Due to this stance, Ocolite is incredibly rare and is only used in the most important construction projects on all of Iugosus.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Ocolite is a grayish-white powder with a coarse texture when in its refined state. When it is in its natural state it is smooth and near completely grey in its coloration.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Ocolite is an incredibly durable and sturdy material and only becomes more so when mixed with water and lime after drying. Alongside its durability, it is surprisingly capable of absorbing large amounts of kinetic force without breaking.

Compounds

Ocolite is seen most often in the compound Ozlil, a concrete-like mixture of the material with water and lime. This combination, once dry, is amongst the most durable building materials in all of Iugosus. Most famously the capital city of Mons used Ozlil in the construction of its all important support beams, without which the city would have fallen off the mountain it resides on long ago.
