The North
Phantasia can on the most basic level be divided into two parts; the North, and the rest. Home to a noble and stubborn folk as rigid and cold as the surrounding landscape, the northern region has over the course of history, despite its small size, been a major player in the struggle for power in Phantasia. This has led to a separation between the region and the rest of the country. The rift, both social and geographical, was strengthened by its former king and is continuously battled by his daughter.
Geography
As it sits to the furthest north, the northern region is cold for the most part of the year, the winters being notoriously brutal. Despite the harsh weather, the region is well loved by its inhabitants who survive on imported produce from the south as well as hunting along the frozen coast. The region is separated from the south by a chain of mountains commonly referred to as The Teeth, and the remaining region has a few scattered hills and smaller mountains. The entrance to the North lies at the centre of the mountains, guarded by a large keep and military settlement known as the gate. Travellers who seek to enter the region must go this way or else risk the little known (and treacherous) paths through the mountains. As it is sometimes viewed as a separate country in its own right, the North has a capital- Ferocior, which is built upon the only lake in the region. The other settlements can be found in close proximity to water.
Fauna & Flora
Arctic in nature, the north has little to offer in ways of flora, but small groves of pine can be found across the land. Various species of moss and hardy grass that flowers in summer keep the herbivores of the region well supplied. These being mostly caribou, elk and wild ponies that can usually be convinced to cooperate with the locals. The ponies have proven notoriously unreliable in combat, however, and so the military favours large and ferocious wolves as their mounts. The riders of the Ulfúr of Ferocior are a terrifying but truly wondrous sight, and many journey from the south for their military parades. Seals can be found along the coasts, along with leopard seals and bears who all share the supply of fish that can be found in the river and ocean. As well as the more common beasts, there have been reports of dragons as well as gryphons, who both haunt the skies.
Natural Resources
The population keeps a steady trade with the south where they get grains and finer materials in exchange for precious stones and metals mined from the mountains, as well as furs, fish and meat from their hunting grounds.
