The Patch and the eye Myth in Phaldorya (Eng) | World Anvil

The Patch and the eye

In the recent years a "prophecy" pronunciated by the child-prophetess Ariadne has become wide-spread through the people of the eastern regions, while some scholars have tried to intreprete its meaning from a rational point of view and Be Chuille's Inquisition has taken some action to mitigate the effect of its possible explanation.

Summary

When the patch will meet the eye, the day and night will marry leaving their ring in the sky...
when the patch and eye will meet and new dark power will rise from the east...
when this will occur a fist of braves from the west will meet their destiny...
— Ariadne, the child-profetess

Historical Basis

In the village of Urguk, the child-profetess Ariadne went into a moment of transcendence, and surrounded by a halo of light, she uttered in hintadu language this prophecy, which was then passed on to her by word of mouth by the villagers since she has lost any memory of that moment.

Spread

The "prophecy" has rapidly diffused in the east by word-of-mouth but, so far, very few have come to know it in the west. Shocked by the obscure meaning of the prophecy, the prophetess has written a letter to Ildefonso Rivas, the chief-inquisitor, hoping for some advice.

Variations & Mutation

Due to the oral transmission of the "prophecy" and the translation, the text exist in multiple variants but none of them is significantly different from the written version that has been recorded in the letter received by the chief-inquisitor.

Cultural Reception

by ELG21

In the east the villages close to Urguk have started to stir in turmoil, concerned by the dark tone of the prophecy, that has been mostly interpreted by superstitious Hintadu has an omen of impending doom. An astrologist questioned by the inquisition has associated the events listed in the prophecy with a solar eclipse due to occur in the mid of Lunastal, although he couldn't give a rational explanation to the remaining of the message. The concern of the inquisitors is that somebody may be searching for the disappeared Balor's eye or that the Fomorn' Lord maybe gathering some servants to bid his dark will. In great secret he has selected a company of heroes to investigate about the prophecy.

this very clearly shows the change in word of mouth movement. Great article :)

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.

This is a very nice (but ominous) prophecy! I like how it travels by word of mouth. That's a very realistic addition! Great work. :)

It is the starting point of a campaign I have started with friends, that presently has blocked because of other individual commitments but I will see if they would like to restart at some point.

I hope they can get back to playing! It seems like a fascinating campaign to me.

Word of mouth is such an interesting method of distribution. I enjoy that this is for an ongoing campaign. :D

I hope to get it back on tracks since for various personal issues we've stopped the sessions!
