The graduation ceremony

The gnomish community of Mount Comignolo celebrates the time when its members become adults when, usually around the seventy year of age, they take the degree in a subject they endeavor to study for the rest of their lives.

History

Since the foundation of the community the focus on education and learning of the young gnomes has been at the heart of their culture. The elderly of the community agreed that the moment of passage between a gnome in full-time education and an expert focus in a subject to fully explore represented a pivotal moment in the life of every gnome, therefore required an appropriate celebration. In the last 300 years, the celebration has gradually shaped into what it is presently.

Execution

At the completion of their base education, a commission of the elderly gnomes evaluate the preparation of the students, testing them on the various subjects they are expected to have mastered. If their education is judged to be completed, they prepare a speech to present to the Dean and they select the subject they elect as a way of life from that point on.

Components and tools

The young gnomes present their speech wearing a cerimonial purple tunic and a golden chain with Oghma's papyrus, whom the gnomes are especially fond of. The Dean gives the student a scroll reporting the graduation and evaluation, from that moment the young gnome can request to be called master for the discipline he has elected as specialty.

Participants

The commission is composed by elective members of the elderly of the community. The Dean is the leader of the commission. The role most important is covered by the students themselves.

Observance

The graduation take place on the day of Heart of Winter, the day between the last day of autumn and the first day of winter.

This is really nice! I like that they get to pick a subject to study. But wow, seventy years of age is young for a gnome? That's crazy but awesome! :O

Woah, that's wicked cool! I love that they have such long lifespans, it allows for much to be done in a lifetime. :D
