Excavation Diaries 2457

The excavation diaries 2457 are a series of papyrus notebooks with a hard cover in wood or leather written in pencil by the tight handwriting of Lucas Almeyda, during the excavations of the ruins of the site he named Burik. The use of the pencil is a recurring choice by the explorer considering it convenient as it does not require ink to work and mistakes can be easily corrected. The diaries are not without errors and appear quite messy, with multiple notes in the margin, because they were sometimes compiled in conditions of poor lighting or precarious balance. In addition, some drawings have been made from memory once outside the site and therefore are not accurately faithful to the original. This series of diaries consists of six volumes not compiled in chronological order but by subject.

Volume one

In the diary marked with the number one, the notes refer mainly to the discovery of the site, in particular there are accurate references to the geographical position to be able to find it even if a sandstorm were to obscure it from view again. In addition, he describes in great detail the access crevasse, the entrance room called the "fishermen's room" because it contains a large number of objects useful for fishing and two other rooms attributed to servants.

Volume two and three

Volumes two and three describe the natural caves communicating through a narrow hole in the rock of a kitchen wall and their flora and fauna. More specifically, much of the third diary is occupied by the notes regarding Penny, the Cryotriton, and her species. The caves are described with the usual care but then judged a misstep.

Volume four

Volume four excitedly notes the discovery of a passage, hidden by a pile of rubble, which leads to what are identified as the master rooms, where among other things the magic cube was found. In these rooms, pieces of art related to dwarven, elven and akharmhur cultures have been found, pointing out the fact that once the relations between the three ethnicities were much more open than today.

Volume five

The fifth diary focuses exclusively on the artifact known as Burik's magic cube. It records the observations and experiments carried out by Lucas in an attempt to understand the inner mechanics of the object. The latter are recorded by date and are interrupted abruptly the day before the disappearance of the archaeologist.

Volume six

The sixth volume was written simultaneously with the fifth and is full of notes regarding the room labeled with the name of peristyle, a sort of internal garden in which several columns and jars were found, some intact and others fragmentary. It too suddenly ends due to the mysterious disappearance of Lucas Almeyda.
