Azoun's reader's digest in Phaldorya (Eng) | World Anvil

Azoun's reader's digest

Hopefully, I am not too late for this! I have been trying to read all the articles in my notification list for WorldEmber but, unfortunately, I haven't managed to read them all! They were so many and my energy and time is limited... Obviously that means that I had to do a selection on what I have time to read so far, but I will continue reading the articles in my notifications and hopefully get them back to a manageable number.   Since there are a few of you that are so good and if I was going to select the ten articles that impressed me most I probably would have repeated some author in this list then I have elected to indicate ten articles of ten different authors. It's not necessarily the article I was more impressed from that author but it's the one that has inspired me for some of my worldbuilding in the recent time or in the plans for the future.   Note: The author are listed in alphabetic order (by world name) so that none feels diminished by an order that would have been otherwise casual!

1) Arda Almayed

Lands of the Wind
Geographic Location | Jul 3, 2022

The nothern shores of Arda Almayed, where no Danatelian has gone.

What I Liked: A wide expanse of semi-desertic lands, that are actually full of secrets waiting to be discovered. The rhythm and the vivid description have given me the sensation of the wind blowing on the sands. What I Take with me: Inspiration for when I will have to put my hands in the description of my massive Arquir Desert, where multiple secrets lie buried in the sands or otherwise hidden in plain sight.

2) Arrasgoth

The House of Books
Geographic Location | Jan 9, 2022

What I Liked: Who wouldn't love a plane that is an immense library? I would love to live there! What I Take with me: I will have to describe the planes that belong to each single deity in Phaldorya and Oghma's (god of knowledge and writing) plane will be similar by many aspects. I don't expect to write it very soon though!

3)Cathedris

Shattercaps
Species | May 9, 2022

A delicate mushroom growing on the beaches of Russin. It slowly turns to glass as it grows, before shattering to spread the spores.

What I Liked: Stormbril make a fantastic and very effective description of these mushrooms that grow on the sands of his world. What I Take with me: I would love to say that I will be inspired by the constant and fantastic work on CSS that populate the pages of Cathedris but I doubt I will be ever as good as Stormbril, so I will set to an easier task saying that I would like to interconnect my species to the other phenomena in my world, a little bit as he does with magnetism and the alignment of these mushrooms. Occasionally, a very brief explanation produces a bigger effect than a long convolute one.

4)Hislarya

Bisik
Species | Sep 21, 2022

What I Liked: I love pets and I suppose, whoever knows me is not really surprised by this, and I have enjoyed the take on a mischievous pet from Kros. I feel that occasionally in worldbuilding we feel more compelled to describe the unusual, failing in describing the daily occurrences this article fixes brilliantly that issue. What I Take with me: I would be a liar if I would limit to this article the ways Kros has inspired, inspires and will inspire me. They are a very special person, more than often they credit themselves for. And although Phaldorya is mostly my creature I can easily say that without Kros I wouldn't probably even started. From the article in the specific I would like to get inspiration for the pets in Phaldorya that so far I have dramatically failed to describe (Come on, my to do list is already overflowing!)

5)Melior

The Common Calendar
Technology / Science | Nov 30, 2022

An inclusive calendar used as a tool to spread propaganda through education.

What I Liked: Well, the article is a visual experience! What I Take with me: I have the concept of the western Phaldoryan calendar written on pen and paper and I have to trasfer it in an article. I would love to get even close to make something as beautiful as this!

6)Outspoken

Teor & Tarr
Myth | Jan 1, 2022

The gods of the great twin rivers.

What I Liked: The interconnection between myth and everyday life, it makes it feel real! What I Take with me: I have only described the pantheon of western Phaldorya, I still have to write about most religious organization and their celebrations, cult of dead and so on. I hope I will be able to connect them as effectively as it is in this very enjoyable series of articles!

7)Pangorio

Map Scry
Spell | Mar 8, 2022

What I Liked: The simple and effective way to describe a magic spell and its variants. What I Take with me: I am not very happy with the way I have described magic so far in Phaldorya, and I definitely want to describe in details some of the magic spells, this article has confirmed me that it can be done in a very effective way!

8)Symbols of Power

Veld the Imaginative
Character | Dec 5, 2022

The famous author of The Book of Habits and Beasts, the biggest encyclopaedia

What I Liked: This nerdy character that has put a lot of effort in the catalogation of the species and habits of their own land is quite interesting, I really enjoyed their personality and passion for knowledge. What I Take with me: I'd love to improve a bit the aspect of Phaldorya regarding books, diffusion of knowledge and culture. I have two characters that have a similar function to Veld, so I may eventually start to flesh them out.

9)The Chronicles of Evalaw

Ajmathi, The Grand Bazaar.
Settlement | Jul 17, 2023

In the heart of Rie'shae lies the pulsating centre of Ajmathi, the grand bazaar. Traders and merchants from the depths of the underworld and beyond gather here to exchange their exotic goods.

What I Liked: From this article you get a neat sensation of crowd discussing services and products, noises, flavour and the cacophony of the market invade your bedroom (or wherever you read!) What I Take with me: I would like to be able to describe the markets and bazaars of Unazan Gazar as effectively as this one!

10)The void Between

The Taking of Fever Breach
Military Conflict | Dec 26, 2021

What I Liked: This article has given me Return of the Jedi vibes, with this I care to explain that what I mean is the kind of vibes I had when I have seen, when I was a child, for the first time that movie. I have really enjoyed reading (although mostly in the wrong order) Dylon articles but this, in my opinion, is the best one of the season, by far (and they are all very good!). What I Take with me: I would like to insert prose in my articles as effectively as Dylonishere does in this series.   To stick to the limit of ten articles, it has meant to cut out a lot of people who deserved my compliment and a big thank you for the beautiful moments I have spent reading their pages the list would be really too long and I would probably still miss to mention someone, but please take care that if I have ever left a like or left a comment on your work it means that I was impressed and I have enjoyed it.
