Of all the events the Syndicate hosts, the Underground Auction is considered one of the least despicable and yet is held in complete secrecy. The event is so exclusive that even its real name is only known amongst the most influential criminals and crooks. To get an invitation is extremely difficult and many would pay millions of credits just to get in the door.

Do I Hear 5 (billion)?

The Underground Auction is the place to be when looking for objects of high value; everything from one-of-a-kind art pieces to weapons of mass destruction. But the millions that many would spend to just enter the door is pittance compared to what many of these items will sell for. Billions of credits are exchanged throughout the week long auction.

Family Feast

The auction is a gathering of all the head-honchos and influencers of the Syndicate and so security of the utmost importance. While planning the event, everything is spoken in code as if they were going to attend a family dinner. The location of the event isn't revealed to attendees until the last possible moment. While it may be paranoia, this level of security and secrecy helps protect the auction from more than just law enforcement agencies. Infighting isn't uncommon and the unified security efforts provided by the Chairmen ensure no possible attempts of theft or other betrayal.

The Individual Events

Liquor Galore

One of the more popular events that happens at the auction is a sampling of exotic liquors. Everything from well-aged whiskys and wines to brand new moonshines that need to find steady customers. Every few years, an extremely rare bottle of liquor will arrive on the auction block; usually a pre-Expansion age bottle from Earth that had been held in stasis. These bottles sell for millions of credits are usually followed by a wild celebration.

Faster Than Fast

Before newly developed engines will be sold on the commercial market, their prototypes are usually sold at the auction. These engines house the newest technologies but are often over-engineered due to being prototypes. Bootleggers desire these engines for their experimental components, not for the engine itself. While this event doesn't see billion dollar auctions, there are many spectators trying to gauge who will be worth placing bets on for the next Bootleggathon.

Arms Race

If there is one things all the gangs of the galaxy can agree on, it's that you can never have enough guns. The Thugs are happy to supply all manor of weaponry including; ballistic weapons, lasers, high-explosives, or even malware. But the real money makers are things even the Thugs can't supply; nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. These weapons of mass destruction, when being sold, see bids in the billions. Other gangs watch to see who is holding what kind of power.
