Nurohm

An island at the center of a small archipelago far at sea. The island is a mystery to many but sailors don't call it the Red-Nest Isle for nothing. The isle is home to a large flock of red Costal Wyvern Draco. But that isn't the most remarkable thing about this place : human settlers have succeded to colonise it at live in harmony with these dragons.

Demographics

These humans have successfully domesticated the rare red coastal wyvern. They once were pirates and traders but have now resolved to hunt fish together with their dragons. Though many inhabitants have a wyvern companion, most of them collect fruit, nuts and oysters in the forests and beaches around the island instead of catching fish with big nets and their trusted companions.

Defences

The town's main defence is its small army of wyvern riders composed of one third of the population. When a child comes of age (14 y-o), it may chose to become a rider, if he or she decides this, they will have to domesticate their own wyvern and will then be taught the ways of the riders.

Industry & Trade

When the riders don't defend their home, the most often are hunting for fish and birds on the back of their mounts. The others are fruit and nut gatherers or even sea-fruit gatherers. Each evening all the food is distributed equally among the Nurohmians in the centre of the town and each night the leftovers are thrown far into the sea as an offering to their deities.

Infrastructure

Half of the Nurohmians live in the central town near the beach. A town comprised of small wooden huts decorated by colourful plants, seashells and seaweed. The other half lives in the cliff sides of the island where most wyverns come and rest. There, there are small tunnels where lava once flowed since the isle itself once was an active volcano. These tunnels have now been converted it little under ground huts made of wood and stone.

History

About three-hundred years ago a group of pirates washed ashore the island with a bunch of traders after a fight between their two ships that both ended up at the bottom of the ocean. They tried to survive with what they had been able to scavenge from the floating remains, but the problem, other than suviving, was that a small flock of red screechers, exiled members of their old families, also inhabited the island and didn't take kindly the arrival of their new neighbours. Though during many years the two groups had a hard time living together, one day, two of the pirate's children were able to domesticate their own wyvern. No one knows how they did it, some say magic, other say luck, but from that point on, the relationship between the humans ans the dragons improved, and they learned not only to live together, but to hunt and prosper together.
