13 Bastards. Powerful impact, boom from the canon.
Describe the functions
The 13 Bastards are a mercenary company who specializes in siege weapons. They diversified into the new technology of canons, motars and bombards.
They initially and still use a very prone to exploding and only able to fire a limited number of rounds a hollow log bound in iron rings which is mounted on a low timber frame.
They also have a number of iron and brass canons in their employ. These canon are extremely heavy being transported by a team of 8-10 horses. They also require a large number of men to work. Large caliber rounds as well as grape shot or any debris can be used to devastating effect. The canons have a very low rate of fire, a skilled team can fire one round every 15 minutes.
Smaller more portable canons can be lifted by a team of five men. Two of these type of canon can be transported in wagons.
The larger canons are often attached to their own carriage which are two or four wheeled depending on the canon size.
Employed by the kingdom of Muskeg for their raids north to be used in sieges, the company took to the field during the battle of frog plains. The 13 bastards had five canons in the field. One exploding with the first shot. Shrapnel decimated the canon squad. The four remaining guns managed to fire two to three rounds in the initial stages of the battle. The impact was minimal. Great clouds of smoke drifted over the field obscuring the field of vision for the charging Pembian knights. The horses and most of the knights never seeing or hearing such a great roar hesitated in their assault, which the Muskeg archers took advantage of by firing repeatedly into the ranks. Although the casualties from the canons was low, the panic and disorganization they caused helped with victory for the out numbered, hungry, and exposed far from home Muskeg army
