Pleroma (pluh-row-muh)

Purpose / Function

Pleroma appears to have once been an 'indestructible' plate meant to physically cover an unexplored portal.
...though, I suppose it's still doing that...

Sensory & Appearance

Glitters

In the current timeline, the once pearly disk is an explosive geyser frozen in time. The once flat surface visibly bulges in one direction. Its center emits a white jet of light that is both obscured and accented by a fountainous shower of the plate's broken shards.   Nothing of the pieces ever move. The shards, appearing for all the realm, to be refracting and reflecting the exact same proton of light. Forever stuck in space and time.

Hazards & Traps

Shards

Whatever mechanism that protected the plate would seem to be broken. At times you could get as close as you want. Then other times, not.
There is some unstable mimetic phenomenon occurring around the scattered frozen glass pieces. It is because the apparent machinery is broken, that Pleroma can be found more regularly than before.   On the other hand, a not-insignificant number of persons have claimed to have been 'forgotten' after interacting with the glass shards. They have lost their life's savings. Records of their birth and deeds are expunged. Their friends, family and crew have forgotten they exist, leading to unexpected surprise and panic when engaged again.
Within 30ft, the potential victim must succeed on a DC 20 CHA saving throw or be forgotten. Anyone else who may have known the victim can attempt a DC 20 WIS saving throw, only once, to hold onto some obscured memory of them. Even as reality bends around them to account for their absence.

Special Properties

Temporal (In)consistency

Anyone can point on a map and show you where arafel is. Not so for the pearly plate. Though everyone knows it must be.
The plate's existence is a definite paradox.   It is easy to travel through time. And at every point in time, Pleroma is there. No matter how far back, even into the war when it is documented being whole, the plate remains broken. It is a feature that defies explanation. Yet it is also for that reason that pleroma holds the distinct coordinates of (0,0,0,0) to center temporal maps.

Architecture

Predestruction

Pleroma was a metallic crystalline disk, 400km in diameter and 4m thick, engraved with 12 circular seals assumed to be that of an alphabet.   Crystallographic analysis of the fragments indicate they possess a restructured crystalline form scaled-down from the whole item's structure. Each shard contain nanoscopic indentations along the edges that release electromagnetic radiation in a rhythmic pulse. These pulses map out a gridlike pattern across its surface from variable radiation frequencies that seem to mimic machinery.

Defenses

Memetoenergy

For much of a time, it was a myth we all knew existed.   Explorers always returned with some evidence of its existence but it was always troublesome to find it again. Though it was always in the same place.
— Aaragon Tetrarchy
It is hypothesized that when it was whole, the plate itself utilized memetic means to hide from anything with a conscience. This effect apparently had a wide reach as any written or half-remembered mention of it is inexplicably wiped from the record.

History

Skeleton War

Pleroma's destruction is believed to have marked the end of penaga's skeleton war.
The weapon said to have done it is cloaked in mystery.
— remarks from Dorapan
