Education

Education occurs in three stages in Paznic's Rest. The first stage is the preliminary school, which is akin to daycare. Children are sorted according to development speed; those who develop more quickly, like half orcs and tortles, tend to group up, where elves, dwarves, and gnomes tend to be grouped separately.    Once a child is of a productive age, usually 6 or 7 (human equivalent), they are transferred to a primary school, overseen by (NAME). School takes about half of the day, and the rest of the day is spent playing and aiding the parents. This school persists until the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic are firmly entrenched within the minds of the students. There is no set age or duration to schooling, so this may happen very quickly or very slowly.   Finally, there is the apprenticeship phase, where the children learn practical skills. This phase is broken into two stages: shadowing and apprenticing. The student shadows multiple artisans until they find something that speaks to them. Alternatively, if the student takes too much time or is too indecisive, the various masters will interview the student and decide amongst themselves what discipline the student shows aptitude for. Once this is decided, the student will become an apprentice, learning a trade from a master (actually usually a journeyman). When their training is complete and they are of journeyman status, they are free to either contribute to the town, or leave and seek out their fortune elsewhere.    The majority of children leave Paznic's Rest; there is very little to do here, and small towns don't speak to most. For those that stay, they have the opportunity to spend many long years in pursuit of their art. For those that leave, the foundational skills taught by their masters afford them great opportunities in the wider world. The standards of the masters of Paznic's Rest are exhaustive.
