The Tapestry Of Marks
A tapestry, dating back to 563PV. On the aged paper lies a collection of drawings - they are the marks carried by everybody in the city. Almost a census, but not quite.
Each mark is intricate - one portrays a dark blue wave crashing against a pebble-washed beach. Another displays a lush green field, dotted with daisies.
There are thousands of drawings here. Each represents two people, people who are believed to be matched.
Purpose
The initial purpose of the document was solely an artist of the time wanting to show the beauty of the soulmate belief.
However, the government got word of the tapestry’s existence and bought it from the artist, employing him to makes new one every year, detailing the mark of each newborn child, along with their name, address, and date of birth.
The tapestries from most subsequent years have been lost, but the original stubbornly remains.
Each year, even now, a new tapestry is created, in order to match people with their soulmates quickly and easily.
