Priest

Bright feathers rustle in the breeze as radiant light engulfs a Paradisian's fallen comrade. When the light fades, his eyes twinkle with joy as the feathers on his companion’s chest begin to rise and fall with breath once again. It's a long trek back, but neither of them will be left behind.   Light spills from beneath a writhing mound of chitinous demons of with growing intensity. With a trumpet of rage a Tuskaar throws the demons aside as holy fire dances on her grey skin without burning her. The demons break and flee only to be pursued as she gives chase propelled to great speed by wings made from the flames of the Fire Eternal himself. She is the only living thing in the infested valley by dawn.   A hulking demon's skin turns to flame and ash crumbling under the paws of a Courser too small and light to seem a worthy foe. He bares his teeth in victory as the demon disintegrates as they are banished to the Void.

The Voice of Fire and Flame

Where Paladins serve as the sword and shield of the Fire Eternal, Priests act as the voice and heart. All Priests possess and embrace a shared ability to hear and speak to the Fire Eternal. Unlike other people who can only pray and hope, a Priest can seek guidance and answers from the Fire Eternal himself and rest securely in the knowledge that their actions bring him joy. Priests with a strong connection to the Fire Eternal have drawn the attention of The Silver Shards even as young as 13 years of age.   The sole known task given to a prospective initiate of The Silver Shards is to forever and always hear and act on the voice of the Fire Eternal. While this may seem an easy task it presents many challenges as it requires the listener to remain free of hatred, deceit, or doubt regardless of what they may face. Only Priests with this unshakable faith may continue to listen to the Fire Eternal’s voice at all times. These people are responsible for delivering the messages of the Fire Eternal throughout Adia. These words must be carefully listened to and received without motive so that they can be properly interpreted to give people the peace and understanding needed to prosper.   As the Fire Eternal speaks words of love and joy, so to does he rail against evil and speak judgment and reckoning to his foes. It is in this way that Priests are able to offer guidance and clues to Paladins seeking to cleanse darkness and dread from the lands. Priests are a source or stability and security for the communities they live in and serve. While not all may possess the fighting strength of a Paladin they are quick to act in defense of their homes and rely on and trust fully in the power and magic of the Fire Eternal to see them through any trial.

Blessing of the Flame

A Priest of the Fire Eternal moves across the land without fear. They take peace in the knowledge that the Fire Eternal watches over all of his creations and aids when he can in magnificent ways. They do not claim to know why he allows some to suffer or linger when times of war come, but their faith remains strong. Those that struggle with the way that the Fire Eternal sometimes answers with great fury and strength and other times answers with esoteric guidance do so in private. Above all, they wish to bring serenity and calm to the people that turn to them for aid.   Unlike their Paladin brethren, many Priests remain in a community for long stretches of time between journeys getting to know the populace and growing deep roots within the communities they dwell in. That is not to say that there are not Priests that take up the call to travel and offer aid and guidance wherever they tread. Priests travel with a mind open to possibilities and often carry extra supplies to help other travelers in trouble that they might encounter along the way. Some see this as a show of power, while others appreciate the gifts and support from this physical extension of the Fire Eternal   To an outside observer it may seem as though Priests and Paladins are wholly without fear. Like most things, there is more at work than what is shown. Many Priests strive to remain calm in the face of death to soothe the people they care about, but they are prone to the same emotions and weaknesses as anyone else. Their public and private personas are often so far removed that, when among close friends and trusted travel companions, it is possible that a casual observer might not realize that the person across the tavern from them is a Priest at all.

The Silver Shards

An order as mysterious as they are respected; the Silver Shards play a very important role in Adia. None in Walenhyde know the location where the Silver Shards meet or who their leader is, but all know that a threat is serious indeed when these silver-caped Priests arrive. It is not uncommon to see Silver Shards travelling with Chosen Defenders as their skills with divine magics are unmatched. It is rumored that each individual of The Silver Shards wields magic bestowed solely to them and none other by the Fire Eternal. These elite Priests possess magical advantages and unique skills possessed by few, if any, others of their order. These powers are far-reaching and include mending not only of the body, but of the soul.
