Personal history

Horatio is the son of a famed human politician who faced scrutiny after his relationship with a full-blooded orc was discovered. His father gave up a life of luxury in order to stay by his wife's side and Horatio was the result of their happy union. He's the oldest of four children and decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a politician. Horatio left a comfortable, quiet life out in the countryside in favor of the busy streets of Trieste. For awhile, he was merely the errand boy for the Caelsimilan military and handled the paperwork that his superiors didn't want to deal with. At some point, Horatio was drafted into a minor conflict between the military and a fleet of pirates that had sailed in from the waters around Sicily.   The pirates were uncoordinated and unprepared for an assault against the military, and the conflict ended with multiple casualties on their part until they ultimately surrendered. The brief stint as a soldier reinvigorated Horatio's passion for politics and it wasn't long before he had a seat of power among the government. He was a fairly amiable man, which surprisingly put him at odds with many of his colleagues. Things came to a head when groups of refugees had started squatting outside of the city. Horatio pushed for a bill that would allow them within the city gates and grant them access to vital resources that they no longer had after being displaced. The refugees were sickly though and fearing a possible plague, a majority of the others wanted them gone.   For months, Horatio was persistent in his belief that they were deserving of the government's help and it was obvious to everyone that his colleagues were fed up. Two weeks later, Horatio was found dead in the streets after being poisoned. His body was dumped outside of the city and for reasons unknown, the man rose from the grave as an intelligent zombie only days later. Some say it was spite that reanimated him, his soul being unwilling to move on until the bureaucratic corruption was dealt with. With so many clerics and paladins stationed in Trieste, walking back in to declare justice would've been a death sentence for him.   Horatio roamed the roads in and around Caelsimil for over a decade. The lack of purpose and meaning in his life was starting to eat away at his mind, but he was able to regain clarity after hearing rumors of a city of undead deep within the woodlands. After stumbling his way through the forest for almost a week, Horatio found himself in Necropolis when it was still in its infancy. When the other members of The Grayveils learned of his diplomatic skills, he was appointed as the town's ambassador. Horatio is now responsible for reaching out to other settlements to forge a network of contacts that can aid Necropolis when it's finally revealed. He's also tasked with securing resources and making trade agreements with trustworthy neighbors.
