The Cult of Ascension is a young doomsday cult that welcomes and seks to hasten the predicted arrival of The Great Devouring.
Public Agenda
The Ascendants strive to create necessary discord in order to hasten the looming threat of the apocalypse, which they see both as imminent and inevitable. Ultimately, they plan to summon Pandemonius to the material plane when the time is right, releasing the Beast and bringing an end to the world as a whole.
Once reality is destroyed, the Ascendants believe that it will be created anew, with Pandemonius as the ultimate authority over all of th universe- and his loyal agents of chaos powerful beings within the new world.
Mythology & Lore
Followers of this faith believe in the immediate imminence of The Great Devouring, the day in which the Beast of Temekus is fated to consume the known universe. The myth claims this beast will destroy the universe before perishing and releasing divine energy back into reality, replenishing it and allowing the world to start anew.
In the original story, the Beast serves the purpose of renewing the diminishing power of the universe as it expands, recycling it so that life and magic are never snuffed out completely, but the prophets of Pandemonius hold an alternate view. According to Ascendant mythology, Kaisu was not truly created by Temekus and Rasadar, but was a third being of equal power that quietly hid and watched as Temekus and Rasadar created everything. When he gathered the other gods together to discuss the preservation of the universe, he lied about its intended purpose, tricking Temekus and the others into thinking that all would be devoured to begin anew again.
Instead, they believe that the Beast of Temekus will be the god Pandemonius, or defeated by the god Pandemonius, who will then reshape everything into a reality that puts him at the center of power over all of creation. Some believe that the third, hidden god is Pandemonius himself, while others interpret it as Iolond, who they believe is closely allied with Pandemonius.
Divine Origins
The Cult of Ascension was formed and founded by its current leader, Prophet Ever After Elyson, also known as Disarray. A Lluvian native familiar with both Teme-Rasadan and Caelsimilian religious practice, he was dismissive of both until the defeat of the Underdark goddess Velevana, after which the incubus Pandemonius rose to power in her place. He interpreted his ascension as a clear sign of the end-of-times, associating the new god with the Beast of Temekus.
As such, Ascension religious doctrine appropriates aspects of Caelsimilian religion, Teme-Rasadan religion, and Underdark worship, though it claims to be distinct from all three.
