The Congregation of Radiance and Brilliance
Structure
They are specifically disorganized, as mass organization conflicts with one of their tenets of faith.
Public Agenda
To bring the joy that comes with their religion.
Mythology & Lore
All life was born from the same, ever bright shining light, that exists all around us. The light isn't a being per se, as it's more a single divine consciousness that makes all decisions. To act on will is to act on the will of the light.
Divine Origins
Unknown, started to appear in some small villiages in Avonn about 150 years ago. It has grown since, but is still definitely not the most common religion anywhere. It is the largest monotheistic religion however, as they believe that gods are just all part of the same god, The Light.
Cosmological Views
All life is a series of decisions, left or right, a or b, and the course of those decisions isn't decided by those who had to make them. The choices were made by the Light. Any natural decision, such as a raccoon choosing to eat garbage instead of foraging for food, is holy. And within this law, any decision a human makes on impulse, is holy, as it is the choice of the Light, being acted upon through you.
Tenets of Faith
To act as they believe The Light would, to make no true commitment but to the faith, to allow people to worship and not worship as they wish, to not apologize for acting in a way seen as irrational by nonbelievers, To Gather in Worship each sunrise, and to act upon any impulse or whim, as they are sparks given to you by god, which can each light a mighty blaze.
Ethics
It is considered pious to live differently, and treat each day as a new different challenge. To use your left hand, is considered holy. To say goodbye when greeting someone, is even considered holy. Any action or choice you make, that you would not normally make, is a holy act.
Worship
To perform a prayer as the sun rises, and to shun the sunset, is common among all sects. As well as resting to lay in the sunlight, whenever or wherever you think it best to do so at the time.
Priesthood
A Priest of the Light is anyone who leads a group in prayer, and can answer the questions of other members of the faith. Because of this, and due to the disorganized nature of the religion, there are many schools of thought and sects.
Granted Divine Powers
These are all disputed, as the bookkeeping of this disorganized religion is just about impossible.
The ability to close wounds, using only fire and light.
To strike down a mighty beast, on accident.
To convince someone the opposite of what is clear, no matter the circumstances
To walk on the sky it's self, and travel great distances.
Any holy magic related to this religion is incredibly chaotic, and is known to cause baffling unrelated effects. It is also powered entirely by belief, rather than anything else, so it can be quite dangerous.
Political Influence & Intrigue
This religion is allowed, as imperial law has no legislation about monotheistic religions. The followers of it though are generally considered outcasts, or are on the fringe of society. Which some followers revel in, as they see their own persecution as holy.
Sects
Bedlam:
The Sect of Bedlam are perhaps the most well known, as they function largely in Voxport and Avonn. They believe that in staying united, they can display the strongest true will, as they may all make decisions for each other. (about 250,000 followers, mostly in Avonn.)
Clamor:
The Sect of Clamor believe that in order to truly display the power of The Light's will, there must be an organized leader, who the light acts through. In practice, since it is considered holy to usurp the leader, the high priest of Clamor has changed many times over. Anyone can do it, but it only matters if others listen. Most common in Elba, however only has about 2000 members give or take.
Ataxia:
The sect of Ataxia believe that any form of organization is in its self antithetical to the message of the light. Therefore, they keep almost entirely to themselves, following no leader, out of piety. It is hard to know how many there are. (membership unknown)
Dissonance:
The Sect of Dissonance is difficult to even call a sect of this religion. It is in effect a group of bandits, that give and take with no logical sense to it. Very little is known about their inner workings, but they mostly stay in the cold woods in Avalon.
Snarl:
Snarl is a sect found mostly in the southern swamps of Avalon. They believe in illumination above all else, and that fire is the ultimate display of piety. As such, they hold very large festivals, where they burn effigies of whatever is bothering them at the time. They're more calm and peaceful than most other sects, but they can come off as cold and unkind to outsiders at first. (about 4000 members)
Clutter:
The sect of Clutter believe that the most true way to display your personal will, and act as the light wishes, is to have. They tend to decorate themselves with any and everything they find interesting at the time. They are famous for their tattoos, which some practitioners work on getting until the day they die. They get a lot of new members, as they stand out quite easily, and are generally the most easygoing sect. Right now they're sort of the new popular one. (about 7000 members or so, but disorganized of course)
