The exact inner workings of the Witch's Quill are unknown. The Quill is capable of working with anything that can be recognized as "something that can be written on", regardless of the material's properties. The most notable items containing the Quill's prophecies include a book made of human skin and a 20 foot by 8 foot portion of cinderblock wall containing nearly 150 prophecies.
It is believed that the Quill is capable of accessing the Akashic Records to create its prophecies, and it is this access that allows the Quill to get more detail in its prophecies than even the greatest prophets or even the gods. The Quill does not require an outside source of ink, creating it through unknown means. The ink resists attempts to analyze it through any methods, so its composition is currently unknown.

Significance

The Witch's Quill is a highly sought-after item, even centuries after the death of its creator. The Quill's prediction accuracy is rated at nearly 100%; only 4 of its thousands of prophecies have been found to be false. Despite the high number of the prophecies, the vast majority of them are kept private.
The power of the Witch's Quill is great enough that numerous wars and other conflicts have occurred solely for possession of the item. Many legendary and notable figures have claimed to possess the Quill, and the loss of the Quill is believed to foreshadow a nation's decline or demise.
The Quill remains in a dormant state for most of the year. It only activates during the spring equinox for approximately 30 hours, during which it transcribes its prophecies into a prepared document.

The Quill is made from the flight feather of a golden camrosh, a creature that went extinct during the Change from the Age of Witches to the Age of Prophets. The quill of the feather is etched with fine characters and decorated with a silver coating.
