Sunken City of Nerthus
Geography
The Sunken City is located on the northeastern shore of the Grand Lake in the Nerthus region. Most of the city's ruins lie about 150 feet offshore and under about 30 feet of water, but a significant portion of the city is at the bottom of a deep pit. The pit appears to be the cause of the city's demise.
Ecosystem
The Grand Lake is a freshwater lake, despite being only 45 feet deep on average, and it is home to nearly 200 species of fish and 42 species of algae. The ruined buildings of the city are used as nurseries for many species of fish and is notable for being the sole location to find the bioluminescent chorus weed.
Localized Phenomena
The Sunken City is the site of the Scorazi Phantoms, a congregation of phantoms that appear under the full moon. First described by Scorazimore Hopes in 12 AP, the phantoms have appeared numerous times in the years. The Scorazi Phantoms do not respond to outside stimuli. They appear to reenact the final hours of the city, including the events of the city's destruction, which seems to have occurred in a short period of time.
It is impossible to sail near the ruins of the city. Any attempts will invariably sink and drown. The victims will appear alongside the Scorazi Phantoms in the future. The bodies disappear during the sinking, and their soul gems are not recovered.
History
The architecture of the Sunken City seems to date its construction to the late 8th century AW, but the name and history of the Sunken City have been lost to time. The catastrophic nature of the city's demise was caused by a Witch's curse, and many legends have survived the Changes of Ages to the modern day. The most common version of the legends state that the Witch was falsely accused of a heinous crime and killed, cursing the city before her death, but there is little evidence to prove the legends.
