The Void

The Void is the space between realms. Though currently there is no proof that other realms exist, so some simply declare it a space outside of reality. Regardless of where it is, we do know what it is, more or less. The void is a blackish purple place of chaos. It twists and tears everything it touches, and as such, void magic can disintegrate objects by pushing them through the void. There are three methods of safe void traversal: bubbling, tunneling, and embracing.

Bubbling uses void magic to create a safety bubble within the void, avoiding the harmful effects. This can be used by void Savants to bring others with them through the void.

Tunneling creates a bubble with length to it, connecting two or more points outside of the void together to form a portal. Savants and magical creatures can create these, as well as some more sophisticated runescribing spells.

Embracing is simple. Every creature with void magic within it can be considered to use the embracing method. By having void magic inside of a creature, it can safely traverse the void. Thanks to this, runescribes can temporally traverse the void by consuming void essence.

Teleportation is using any of these methods to rapidly enter then exit the void, appearing to teleport to outside observers. This is equivalent to going underwater then resurfacing.

Phasing is the act of only partially entering the void, allowing the user to become less tangible, and even pass through objects. This is equivalent to standing in the shallows of a river.

As far as we currently know, gemforging can not be used to safely traverse the void. Sugilite is the only void gemstone, and will simply send things into and out of the void, causing them to be scrambled. Anything that passes through the void in this method will have its molecules rearranged, and so this can only be used for teleporting fluids.
