The Lightning Plains of Fulgari
Best not to linger in the plains. You never know when a lightning bolt migh-The lightning plains are known for their constant storms, and their abundance of fulgurite, for which the country of Fulgari is named.
The fields are said by many to be home to Maximus, the Wind Well. As the god of weather and storms, it is no surprise that the fields have this association, particularly with such a near-constant maelstrom. Fulgurites often claim to have seen him wandering the plains at night, his hair crackling like a thunderhead, his silver warhammer throwing bolts through the air. The Native Fulmins say that Maximus resides in the mountains, casting bolts down upon the plains.
Whatever people believe about the plains' storms, the location is quite dangerous nonetheless. Many unwary travelers or unskilled Fulmins have been struck down by a stray bolt. Overzealous fulgurite hunters are the most common casualty, as they often forego protection for speed in order to discover the precious lightning glass first.
Geography
The plains themselves consist of silica-rich soil, which remains surprisingly dry despite the constant storms. Strong winds and drainage to lower elevations are the main causes of this, though rain water is often collected by Fulgurites to drink. The plains are windswept and vary little in elevation, allowing a traveler to see for miles in every direction. This flatland extends all the way to the mountains, and just as far in the other direction before dipping downwards.
Localized Phenomena
The storms are a result of the northern offshore winds mingling with the southwestern mountain air, which results in a near constant storm brewing over the plains.
