The Deep Forest
The deep forest is a strange location found within southernmost Arris. It is a large forest, spanning a significant portion of the subcontinent. The deeper one goes, the larger the flora and fauna. Most notably, the trees at its heart are taller and broader than any on the rest of the continent, though few have ever seen them.
Theories for why this is the case are vast and varied. The most common is that it is a gravity thaumic desert, the lower gravity allowing trees to tower over others. Another is that it is a Water thaumic reservoir, allowing the trees to push water higher and higher. And a third still is that magical mycelium is the cause for all this. Unfortunately, the hazards of the forest have prevented experimentation on the matter.
The most notable hazard is the inability to navigate the forest properly. Its tall canopy prevents nearly all sunlight from reaching the ground in its deeper reaches, and its bioluminescent fungi do little to help. Additionally, many large and unusual creatures dwell in this darkness. Most of these creatures have little to no description, due to the difficulty documenting the reason.
Though one would expect arborials to be a present danger here, the trees of the deep forest are too large, and their bark too dense for arborials to inhabit. Though fortunate for any humans wishing to avoid arborials, it does mean the trees are equally hard to fell, and as such the trees themselves are a hazard of sorts.
The highest point in the deep forest is known as the deep cloud forest. The deep cloud forest is covered in constant fog, and is home to many strange organisms. Thanks to the massive trees and higher elevation, one can see the deep cloud forest without even venturing into the deep forest, and several airship expeditions have attempted to explore it properly.
