One corner is from the crest of the Merchants’ Guild, the opposite is from the crest of the Bankers’ Guild, and the other two quarters depend on where the coin was smithed.   The stamps of the two guilds are used to ensure the integrity of a coin. First, the coin is smithed with the two crests in it, with the other 2 quadrants left blank. These blank sections are then stamped by the local government.   When paying in small amounts, it is customary to place the coins with the merchant’s guild crest facing the seller.     Ȼ1 ≈ $2
