God Stealing
"To hold the power of immortals in one's hands is a tempting prospect. But at what cost?"
-Anonymous Skimmerian Mage
While the Elves had natural affinity and aptitude for Wild Meditation, humanity was creativity and short-sighted enough to dare look for such answers. The answers they found led to the creation of God Stealing magic, also known as Forbidden magic.
There are no small effects in God Stealing Magic. Every casting would result in an effect rivaling an hour's work of Wild Meditation in a matter of minutes.
The flying cities were the most famous results of God Stealing magic, but even more fantastical feats were accomplished from space bending to the rumored time traveling.
However, there were major drawbacks to the caster of even the most basic spells. Each casting would bring them closer to the Immortals in all the worst ways. It would preserve their lives, but they would fade from mortal existence and lose control of the powers they were harnessing. Some performers of the craft vanished in thin air, others went mad, and some mutated into demonic forms to contain the inhuman amount of power inside.
Source
All immortals and deities draw from an endless source of power that keeps them immortal and gives them their power. God Stealing Magic tries to harness this power.
Gestures & Ritual
It requires very specific hand gestures and in-depth knowledge of the "God Source" and how to extract energy from it. You also need to know how to shape it to take on the properties of the effect you want. More complicated spells often require some sort of focusing item or a container to consume the "God Source."
Applied Restriction
Every use of God Stealing magic has a permanent negative effect on the caster that cannot always be predicted.
