Cragjumper's Brewing Barn

After winning the polebarn tavern in the Blackstone brewing competition, Merko Cragjumper decided to move his family from their very small cottage and into the tavern.   It was a lot of hurried work to add a kitchen and living quarters before the cold rains of winter began but it was done.   During the winter, Merko worked hard on drafting a brewing barn that would last for generations.   Spring came and through the tavern he heard rumblings of discontent between the loggers and the Timukua who warded the Thrundank's swamp trees.

Determined to get his brewing barn built, Merko hired a pair of brothers to take him into the Thrundank on their fishing boat.   For five days Merko went about the Thrundank, visiting all the Timukua villages.   He learned they were feeling very insulted at the loggers for taking more than the marked trees and then cheating the Timukua out of their share of the price for the lumber.   Armed with this knowledge, Merko went to Ridge Camp, the biggest of the logging camps.

Run by Eino Rapp, it was notorious for shifty dealings and rough business that beat down any competition from the smaller camps.   Negotiations with Rapp were fruitless as Rapp insisted the trees should be free for those with the strength to take them.   He was not about to pay those "flea-bit polecats" anything more than the few coppers their scouting for good trees deserved.   Disgusted with Rapp, Merko went to the Turtlemounds Camp, a smaller logging outfit made up of Myrvon Turtlemound and his seven sons.

Myrvon was very willing to pay the Timukua their share but getting the logs to the mill past the Ridge Camp crew would not be possible.   Merko went to the fishers and asked them if they would be willing to tow logs out of Thrundank and to the mill, rather than the Turtlemounds using the cleared canal controled by Rapp and the Ridge Camp.   The fishers agreed, for a price that the Turtlemounds could not afford.   Merko offered them Peak Ale instead of coins, a keg for each boat.

This was agreed and Merko returned to the Thrundank with Myrvon to negotiate with the Timukua.   A deal was struck and work began.   By that fall's Great Harvest, a new brewing barn stood across the street from Cragjumper's Alehouse.

PEAK ALE

Brewed from the finest hops harvested from mountain slopes, Peak Ale is considered one of the best ales in the Miribex Kingdom. Well, according to those who travel the Darkwater River to Blackstone and spread the word, anyways.

BLACK WALNUT WHISKEY

Despite its simple name, Black Walnut Whiskey provides the flavor than its name suggests, with a surprise. Beneath its very smooth walnut and hint of cream, there is the spice, hot-bark. This spice is brought to its hottest essence without losing its own distinct flavor. With hot spices being all the rage in the human realms, folks pay gold coins for one of the rare few bottles made each year.

The whole thing was great, but I especially loved the bit at the end where ale solved problems.
