The Story Thus Far

1) WHO: Krostenya "Tenya" Perk
2) WANTS: To help her Aunt with the trouble in Rookery Hollow
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Her cousin XXX is deeply involved
4) WHAT CAN SHE DO: Figure out how to get him out of being involved
5) WHY IT FAILS: she discovers that something is pretending to be her cousin
6) ENDS: she defeats the imposters

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

CHAP 1

Aichil

1) WHO: AICHIL
2) AICHIL WANTS: He wants to reamin in the World
3) WHAT'S THE PROBLEM: Its host is about to die to a demon hunter
4) WHAT'S A DEMON TO DO: Fight back with power that will harm its host
5) WHY THIS FAILS: The host was just not ready enough
6) ENDS: The host falls against the trunk of a tree BUT its a tree with a soul and Aichil escapes its host

THE TREE

1) WHO: Ramblebark Tree
2) TREE WANTS: To repel the intruder
3) WHY CAN'T IT: Doesn't comprehend the threat
4) WHAT DOES THE TREE DO: flees to safer soil (Rookery Hollows Woods Out Back)
5) WHY THIS FAILS: the demon is latched onto its soul, and travelled along
6) ENDS: There is a silent wail of heartwood as the tree's soul falls to Aichil the demon

CHAP 2

STUVUN FALLS

1) WHO: XXX = Stuvun Perk
2) XXX WANTS: Get away with commiting his petty crime and use that he was in the woods gathering wood as his alibi
3) THIS FAILS, WHY?: He is attacked by the Demon Tree
4) WHAT DOES HE DO: He fights the roots of the tree
5) WHY THIS FAILS: The tree exudes this heady scent that makes him fall asleep
6) ENDS: The roots drag him down into a hole beneath the tree

MYRA'S LETTER

1) WHO: The Aunt = Myra Perk
2) THE AUNT WANTS: To write a letter to Tenna
3) THIS DOESN'T WORK CAUSE: she struggles to find the words
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: paces and stares out the window
5) THIS FAILS BECAUSE: this is not actually writing just thinking
6) ENDS: she finally writes her letter

CHAP 3

COACH RIDE

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: To know what Stuvun is doing to worry Aunt Myra
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: she is not in Rookery Hollow
4) WHAT DOES TESSA DO: she rides in a coach on its way to Rookery Hollow
5) WHY THIS FAILS: her curiousity keeps buggin her
6) ENDS: she finally arrives at thr Rookery Hollow Roadhouse

BAGGAGE

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: To get her and her things to her aunt's house
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Stuvun is not arround to help
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO ABOUT IT: she hires some of the local children to help her
5) WHY THIS FAILS: they witness someone else being called out for acting strange
6) ENDS: Tenna finally arrives at Myra's house

CHAP 4

STUVUN?

1) WHO: Stuvun Clone
2) WANTS: to take MISSY= Ymma Cobble to the tree
3) WHY CAN'T THEY: there is a struggle in the woods and she escapes after wounding Stuvun-clone, revealing plant juice, not blood
4) WHAT DO THEY DO: a seceond Stuvun-clone replaces the first which is now scarred
5) WHY THIS FAILS: MISSY spots the new clone and is shocked to see no trace of a wound
6) ENDS: Ymma tells her mother

JAM

Transition for time

BOOKS

1) WHO: Tenna
2) WANTS: to figure out where Stuvun is eating
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: there are no eateries so it must be at a home
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: attempts to follow Stuvun
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Nynsa arrives and she cant leave
6) END: Tenna learns what happened to Ymma

CHAP 5

FLOUR

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to talk to Missy
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Nynsa wont let anyone talk to her
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: goes to the mill in hopes of meeting Nynsa
5) WHY THIS FAILS: something terrible happened and Nynsa is not at the chapel
6) END: Tenna goes home

TENDRILS

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: get Aunt myra to talk to nynsa
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: as she gets home, she meets Stuvun
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: wants to avoid him
5) WHY THIS FAILS: steps right up to her
6) END: Tenna sees tiny plant tendrils in his ear (green against his otherwise dark hair)

CHAP 6

MAGIC

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to find the hag
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: her locating spell fails
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: tried again
5) WHY THIS FAIL: aunt myra points out its a waste of effort
6) END: she decides to clean/search Stuvun's room

HIS ROOM

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to find a clue
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: room is a mess
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: cleans it
5) WHY THIS FAILS: still finds nothing
6) END: Making the bed with the clean bedding, she discovers his journal hidden in the ropeworks

THE BED

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to find a way to investigate Strawfields
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: she is a woman and they only allow male visitors
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: tries to think of a plan
5) WHY THIS FAILS: she discovers stuvun's journal
6) END: she forgets to plan as she decides to read it

CHAP 7

NYNSA

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to read the tally book
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Ymma has returned and attacked Nynsa
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: go and face Ymma
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Nynsa and Aunt Myra are too terrified
6) END: They fortify the cottage

ROADHOUSE

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to take her Aunt and Nynsa away from Rookery Hollow
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: the next coach is not due for another two days
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: decides they need to hunker down until the coach arrives
5) WHY THIS FAILS: The townbell rings
6) END: Tenna watches the roadhouse burn from the roof hatch

CHAP 8

SMOKE

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: cry in despair
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Aunt Myra and Nynsa need her to do something
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: she has lost faith in herself
5) WHY THIS FAILS: she can't bear to think of what will happen to Aunt Myra if she doesn't keep trying
6) END: she reads the tally book

AICHIL TREE

1) WHO: Aichil
2) IT WANTS: another victim
3) WHY CAN'T IT: the town is tense and woatchful as foul play is suspected in the roadhouse fire
4) WHAT DOES IT DO: sends Ymma #2 to town to join with Stuvun in sliencing her mother
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Ymma warns that the fire might have encouraged someone to help Nynsa
6) END: Aichil demands they search the whole town, even if they have to slip inside homes to do it

CHAP 9

WHERE?

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to find the old Fiddler's farm
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: she doesn't know where it is
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: asks Aunt Myra
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Aunt Myra and Nynsa don't know where it is
6) END: decides to search the woods for the old farm

ROOTS

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to do this as secretly as possible
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: they are "creeping" along behind Nynsa
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: goes ahead to the edge of the lantern light
5) WHY THIS FAILS: she suddenly finds herself face-to-face with Merle #2
6) END: Nynsa bashes his head in with the shovel.. plant matter is revealed

CHAP 10

MUSTER

1) WHO: Aichil
2) HE WANTS: to know who killed his woad
3) WHY CAN'T HE: it happened at night when his pollen was thin
4) WHAT DOES HE DO: rants at his woads for answers
5) WHY THIS FAILS: they were all rooted at night
6) END: calls all the woads back to him

SIMULACRUM 1) WHO: Tenya
2) SHE WANTS: to investigate the workshop
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Stuvun returns with friends
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: retreats to the house
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Stuvun takes up an axe and starts chopping at the door
6) END: she goes to the roof and uses magic. he is a fake stuvun

SCENE 23

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to destroy the tree
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: there are more woads to destroy
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: she wields the axe and her magic
5) WHY THIS FAILS: she begins to tire and is runs out of magic
6) END: she is struck down and loses the axe

SCENE 24

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to give up
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: she loves her family
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: she grasps a stone and smashes in a woad's head
5) WHY THIS FAILS: another woad attacks her
6) END: the new woad collapses under a shovel

CHAP 11

SCENE 25

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to resign from it all
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: she sees it was her Aunt who swung the shovel
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: Tenna rejoins the fight
5) WHY THIS FAILS: the townsfolk overrun the goard patch, destroying the woads
6) END: There are no woads left for tenna to fight

SCENE 26

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to save XXX
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Aichil (released his talking scent) demands everyone leave, stunning all
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: Tenna chops at the tree with her axe
5) WHY THIS FAILS: the tree suddenly vanishes
6) END: Tenna goes into the cave

SCENE 27

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: to find XXX
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: the first victim released from the broken roots is MISSY who looks very ill but is alive
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: Tenna search for XXX
5) WHY THIS FAILS: He was the first so deepest in
6) END: they find XXX but he is dead as he is now a shriveled husk. They were too late

CHAP 12

SCENE 28

1) WHO: Tenna
2) SHE WANTS: want to stay with her Aunt
3) WHY CAN'T SHE: Aunt insists she returns to the Academy to report all that has happened
4) WHAT DOES SHE DO: she cleans XXX workshop
5) WHY THIS FAILS: Aunt and several townsfolk insists she reports all she can to the academy
6) END: Tenna sits aboard the stage coach with a new bag of samples and written accounts, her heart heavy

SCENE 29

1) WHO: Wilbur
2) HE WANTS: to get a good load of wood to take back home
3) WHY CAN'T HE: he spots a strange dark tree that had never been there before
4) WHAT DOES HE DO: he examines the tree
5) WHY THIS FAILS: a strange scent sudden'y fills the air and the tree is talking
6) END: before he can run, root tendrils wrap about him legs and, soon, he is cocooned in roots and slowly dragged beneath the tree through another freshly dug cave
