Paler (ˈpaleɾ)
A lesser beast born from a snapping turtle. She can be found primarily in freshwaters, preferring places with canopy cover, overhanging trees, shrubs, dead submerged trees, and beaver dens. She is an opportunistic feeder, almost entirely carnivorous, relying on both live food caught by herself and scavenging the dead. She is a diurnal hunter active at sunrise and sunset. In general, she will eat almost anything she can catch.
She resides in and around the Arresadi River, along the bend of the Dark Wood, and can be seen sunning on the riverbank on colder days. Very little in the area can threaten her, save for the Wulgol who occasionally makes its way up the river.
Physical Description
Body Features
She has a large, heavy head, and a long, thick shell with three dorsal ridges of large scales. Her olive-green body can often be found covered with algae. Her shell provides shelter from the elements and protection from predators. Her tail ends in a bony club-like protrusion.
Facial Features
The radiating yellow patterns around the eyes serve to break up the outline of the eyes to keep her camouflaged. The eyes are also surrounded by a star-shaped arrangement of fleshy eyelashes. The inside of her mouth is camouflaged, and it possesses a worm-shaped appendage on the tip of her tongue used to lure fish, a form of aggressive mimicry.
Identifying Characteristics
Has spiked shell that provides extra protection from predators and camouflage against the leafy ground. The ridges along the side are serrated and razor thin.
Special abilities
The tip of her chest plate is thickened and used for butting and ramming during combat. Having hinges on the chest plate allows her to expand and contract, growing to massive size. And her bite can also cut through iron.
