Primordial

Primordials are eight beings from beyond the dawn of time, born directly from The Void and embodiments of fundamental aspects of creation. They belong to two families; Order and Chaos. Responsible for not only the material universe as we know it, but are the progenitors of all the gods who came after them. Primordials are beings of supreme power over both their aspect and much of the others within their 'family' (order or chaos). They have no base motives or emotions and view themselves as the sustainers of the cosmos, required to retain balance and existence.   The Primordials have no knowledge of their origins and, as the oldest entities in existence, have no way of determining it themselves. They speculate that The Void, the state of non-existence that was all there was before their creation, somehow created them, but how, or perhaps more importantly, why, they do not know. Discussion about this is one of their favourite ways to pass the time, when they are not watching the material universe they made.   After the creation of the Primae, the Primordials who resided in the material world grew weary, and departed back to the aether from which they originally came, vowing not to interfere with their children's management of the universe. This was only challenged once, when Hikis, the Inheritor, and great-grandchild of Pande, appealed to Pande for help in defeating the Usurpers. Whilst Pande refrained from physically interfering, she was moved enough to speak with the Guardian of The Underworld, Sis'retyr, to release one of the Primae.

Order

Baaku

The prime mover, the source of all energy and sustenance, whatever energy leaves, comes back in time. Obsessed with efficiency and takes great pleasure in efficient processes and methods. Antagonistic towards Caifu, whom he sees as his polar opposite. The two are bound together, however, and can never really be separated.

Foret

Foret is the Primordial that represents space; the intrinsic property of the universe to occupy a specific place, the boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction. Along with Foret's partner/opposing Primordial, Vilera, the two of them caused into existence the entire material realm, imbuing it with their twin aspects of time and space.   Of all the Primordials, it is Foret and Vilera who are least known about on the material plane, and the two whom seem to have least interest in it. There are no recorded instances of them either visiting the material plane, nor having any progeny. After their creation of the universe, they seem to have stepped back and ignored it.

Ryla

The embodiment of death, the ending of life and the cessation of existence, Ryla is close to her counterpart in Chaos, Pande. The of them represent the circular nature of existence, where one follows the other and each have their place in the correct management of reality. She also has a common relationship with Caifu, with whom she shares an understanding of ending.

Weilu

Seen as the source of law and order, responsible for making sure the universe operates correctly and balance is maintained. The most conservative of all the Primordials, he is deeply concerned with sentience, and its ability to defy even the rules and laws it makes for itself. Despite this, Weilu encourages adaptation and growth, seeing maturity as the best course towards stability and lawfulness.

Chaos

Caifu

All things break down and end, order decreases, entropy increases. Seen as inevitable, but able to be resisted for a while. Often invoked along with Ryla in funeral rites as finally getting dues ("Caifa thirsts, Ryla drinks"). Whilst Baaku may claim to oppose her, she is wiser in that she acknowledges that even her slow progression over the universe cannot unmake energy, simply distribute it wider

Jonu

Instigator of strife and conflict. Acknowledged as necessary in the world. Does not create disorder through malice, but rather as a way for progression. Close to Pande (hunter/hunted, predator/prey) in a shared antagonistic manner, but also with Baaku, as conflict ensures the proper transfer of energies. After the twin synergy of Foret and Vileru, is probably the most powerful of all Primordials, as conflict is intrinsic to the universe; even the meeting of atoms and molecules comes under his gaze.

Pande

Of all the Primordials, Pande is the one both most known, and most beloved. It was she who created the world that bears her name, and it was she who brought life to it.   She is the Primordial who embodies the concept of life, of growth and reproduction, and the desire of all living creatures to exist. Her compassion and empathy is well known, and she was the first of the Primordials to encounter humans, receive their venerations, and create offspring from their creative energies.

Vileru

Vileru is the Primordial that represents time; the continued sequence of existence and events that occurs in an apparently irreversible succession from the past, through the present, into the future. Along with Vileru's partner/opposing Primordial, Foret, the two of them caused into existence the entire material realm, imbuing it with their twin aspects of time and space.

Worship

Knowledge of the Primordials, their nature and their names, is generally restricted to specialised priests. Not through any secrecy, but because of the obscure nature of this faction of gods, and that, unlike the other gods, they do not need human worship. A few priests of other gods maintain the knowledge of their existence, and offer up prayers and devotion, more through a sense of obligation and gratitude than need.   As for the Primordials themselves, they have never even made themselves known to humanity in all of recorded history, and knowledge of them comes directly from works attributed to their offspring, the almost as powerful Primae.
