Somnus - God of Dreams

"I have a dream..."

Divine Domains

Hope, Darkness, Death (formerly Madness)

Wait, what?

It's said that before the Worldshock, Somnus was a different god entirely; a good of both dreams and nightmares. But when hundreds of gods died, including the God of Death, and the Moonlit pantheon rescued them, Somnus was inspired to take up the mantle of shepherding the souls of Amaranth's departed.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

A figure lying in a bed of flowers (whether dreaming or dead is deliberately ambiguous).

Tenets of Faith

The dream that tomorrow might be better than today is all that drives us. Never stop dreaming.   When you can do nothing; rest. Recover. Regrow your strength.   When you meet your final rest, I will hold you to my breast. Strive to be all you can be, before you meet me.

The Church of Somnus

Whilst being the smallest of the five churches, the Church of Somnus boasts some of the most eclectic membership; from outlandish dreamers, to somber death-worshippers, the faithful of Somnus resist being easily categorised. Even though some call them the leftovers, who don't fit into the other churches, many dedicated worshipers recall Somnus calling to them personally before joining.   In the High Council Valeria and Hircus usually advocate action, whilst Luna and Tethys often push for consolidation, so despite being the smallest congregation, the high priests of Somnus occupy an unusually powerful position of being a frequent tiebreaker. This is a power they tend to wield optimistically; basing many of their desires on hopeful outcomes, but it's not unknown for them to take the more cautious path.   Outside the political sphere, the church performs the funeral rites of every soldier that falls in battle, going so far as to perform elaborate ceremonies and last rites even for absent bodies. (More private and peaceful deaths within the city, can arrange specific funerals with other gods' clergy presiding over them, but battlefield casualty rates necessitate a more standard procedure.)
