Minotaurs
More of a common sight in the frontlines than the city proper, Minotaurs are nonetheless a respected part of the Amaranthine army. Mostly scions of the unimaginatively named House of The Bull, which has spent centuries honing their strength and tactics, these 7 foot tall hulks tower over most other races. Their ritualistic tattoos, scars and brands, marking out deeds, rank or milestones passed, do little to decreases their intimidation factor. Squads of their finest are often the backbone of many Legions; capable of holding entire front lines or choke points against overwhelming numbers. Whilst there’s no doubt that a raging Minotaur on the battlefield is a terrible sight to behold, when on home turf they are remarkably placid or stoic, and maintain pleasant relationships with most other races, despite their bestial and ritualistic culture.
Minotaurs universally seem to hold some ingrained animosity towards Bugbears, who they view as emotionally repressed and war-obsessed; having no love for nature. Attempts to break down this animosity have succeeded for a time, but it somehow re-asserts itself after a few years, and working around this incompatibility has become second nature for civic leaders.
Origins
The Minotaur's oral traditions say they roamed in nomadic tribes far to the east, at peace with lands, leading great herds of beasts. Though naturally quite peaceful, they were extremely strong when provoked, and developed strong ritual rites and magics to bolster themselves against threats to their nomadic tribes. But some five centuries ago, the Minotaur tribes were driven west by the encroaching Orc Swarm, to Amaranth. Initially they roamed around the city, using it's defences as a fallback point, should the Orc Swarm encroach. But eventually, the herds they tended to dwindled under this manic lifestyle, and the wilds grew ever more dangerous. So, with limited options, the Minotaur tribes offered their fealty to Amaranth, in return for sanctuary.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
